IS1626, a new IS900-related Mycobacterium avium insertion sequence.
Microbiology (Reading, England), 2000An insertion sequence designated IS1626 was isolated and characterized from a Mycobacterium avium clinical strain. IS1626 was detected by high-stringency hybridization with the pMB22/S12 probe from IS900 of Mycobacterium paratuberculosis. IS1626 is 1418 bp in size and has a G+C content of 65 mol%.

The aim of this study was to determine if fluorescent PCR could be used instead of nested PCR, for the detection of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (M. paratuberculosis) in clinical specimens, to improve the sensitivity without increasing the risk for cross-contamination.

Johne's disease is one of the main causes of economic losses in ruminants and a major health hazard in the developing and developed world. Up till now, many microbiological, serological and molecular methods have been tried for the detection of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP).

There is an increasing demand for fast and reliable methods to distinguish Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (M. paratuberculosis) from closely related mycobacteria and also a need for rapid strain specific typing of clinical isolates for epidemiological reasons. In the present study, the potential of rep-PCR as a fingerprinting method for M.

The role of Mycobacterium avium ss paratuberculosis (MAP) in the etiopathology of Crohn's disease (CD) remains controversial, because of conflicting reports demonstrating the presence of MAP-specific insertion sequence from intestinal biopsy tissues of patients clinically diagnosed for the disease.
