Petrochemical variations of island arc andesites (Kurile Island Arc)

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1988
The problem of comparison of island arc andesites in terms of petrochemical data is examined. It has been proved that in the case of the Kurile Arc, two main factors exist governing the petrochemical variety of andesites. We have made use of original multivariate statistical techniques and computer software to extract these factors.

On island arcs

Earth-Science Reviews, 1975
Abstract Older concepts of island arcs, prior to the 1960's, were dominated by the Indonesian model and described in terms of geosynclinal theory, but not altogether fruitfully. Platetectonics theory has given new insights into the genesis, mode of formation, behaviour and ultimate fate of island arcs. Subduction with descent of the lithospheric slab

Evolution of Island Arcs

The Journal of Geology, 1971
Modern active island arcs and their surroundings consist of two main physiographic zones-a volcanic ridge or arc and a submarine trench. Rocks in island arcs fall into three groups, the origin of which can be interpreted in terms of plate tectonics and of geological processes in the two zones and surrounding ocean floor. The groups are (1) volcanic arc

Island arc elements and arc-related ophiolites

Tectonophysics, 1984
Abstract All major structural elements in island arc systems, fore-arc, magmatic arc, back-arc basins and remnant arcs, are potential ophiolite sources, and those features that allegedly characterise ophiolites of ocean-ridge origin, sheeted dyke complexes, mantling pelagic rocks, hydrothermal metamorphism and associated mineralization, can also ...

Andaman Island Arc and Back-Arc Sea

2015
The 850-km-long chain of islands between the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea constitutes the central part of the 5000-km-long Myanmar–Indonesia Mobile Belt related to an active subduction zone. The Andaman Island Arc comprises two nearly parallel arcuate belts.

Andaman–Nicobar Island Arc

2017
Abstract Genetically connected to the India–Myanmar Border Ranges in the north and to the Indonesian Archipelago in the southeast, the Andaman–Nicobar Island Arc comprises an imbricated pack of Upper Cretaceous to Early Tertiary flysch successions that is implanted with ophiolites.

Mountain and Island Arcs

Geological Magazine, 1931
In a recent number of the Records of the Geological Survey of India, vol. lxii, p. 410, Dr. Fermor has done me the honour to draw attention to a paper of mine (Geological Magazine, 1903, p. 305) in which I came to the conclusion that the thrust-plane at the base of the Himalayas must have, at its outcrop, a dip of about 14°; and he points out that this

The Hawaiian Island arc

Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1936
We have recently completed a monograph on the recent and fossil Hawaiian marine bivalve mollusks. This embraces 189 species and sub‐species, which belong to 105 genera and sub‐genera. Most of the fossils appear to be Pleistocene, a few may be Pliocene.
