Exploring efficacy in personal constraint negotiation: an ethnography of mountaineering tourists [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Limited work has explored the relationship between efficacy and personal constraint negotiation for adventure tourists, yet efficacy is pivotal to successful activity participation as it influences people’s perceived ability to cope with constraints, and

Controlled Islanding with Special Consideration of Parallel Power System Restoration Constraints

open access: yesIngeniería, 2017
Intentional Controlled Islanding (ICI) can prevent blackouts by splitting the system into islands following a severe disturbance. Post-islanding events, however, might lead to instabilities that can result into blackouts within one or more islands ...

A Novel Self-Healing Strategy for Distribution Network with Distributed Generators Considering Uncertain Power-Quality Constraints

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Self-healing of smart distribution networks with distributed generators, which are usually operated as independent islands after fault, can improve power-supply reliability.

Late Cenozoic metamorphic evolution and exhumation of Taiwan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The Taiwan mountain belt is composed of a Cenozoic slate belt (Hsuehshan Range units, HR, and Backbone Slates, BS) and of accreted polymetamorphic basement rocks (Tananao Complex, TC).

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

3D billiards: visualization of regular structures and trapping of chaotic trajectories

open access: yes, 2018
The dynamics in three-dimensional billiards leads, using a Poincar\'e section, to a four-dimensional map which is challenging to visualize. By means of the recently introduced 3D phase-space slices an intuitive representation of the organization of the ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Investigating the Impact of Seawater Intrusion on the Operation Cost of Groundwater Supply in Island Aquifers

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 2023
Managing fragile island freshwater resources requires identifying pumping strategies that trade off the financial cost of groundwater supply against controlling the seawater intrusion (SWI) associated with aquifer pumping.

What Syntactic Structures block Dependencies in RNN Language Models? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) trained on a language modeling task have been shown to acquire a number of non-local grammatical dependencies with some success.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...
