Unified Grid-Connected and Islanded Operation
In order to ensure the uninterrupted power supply, it is necessary for microgrid to operate in both grid-connected mode and islanded mode. To address this concern, this chapter introduces a unified decentralized control strategy for both grid-connected and islanded operation of the series-type microgrid (CMG).

Operation control of islanded microgrids [PDF]
Islanded microgrids are small electric power networks that have no connection to a larger grid. They can be found, for example, in remote places, such as, islands or rural areas. Islanded microgrids typically comprise storage, renewable and conventional units as well as local loads.

Universal application of synchronous islanded operation
Synchronous islanded operation keeps an islanded system in synchronism with the main power system while not being electrically connected. The challenges associated with the multiple-set application are considered in this paper.

Considerations for Generation in an Islanded Operation
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2009This paper discusses the conceptual design and operation of an isolated power system, recognizing the reality that generator or turbine trips will occur. The level of reserve generating capacity must be set with proper balancing of capital expenditures and operating costs against revenue lost in a production shutdown.

Synchronous Islanded Operation of a Diesel Generator
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2007The amount of distributed generation connected to the distribution network is increasing. To use this resource more effectively, splitting of the distribution network, or islanding the system, for prevention of power outages is being considered by some utilities.

Turbine Control in Island Operation
2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE), 2020This paper deals with steam and gas turbine-governor dynamic models. The paper compares various control modes and different settings of parameters applied in special cases of separated and island operations. Simulation calculations on dynamic models show that in these modes it is necessary to have a functional speed governor and vice versa deactivate ...

PEA Guidelines of Impact Study and Operation of DG for Islanding Operation
2007 IEEE/IAS Industrial & Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference, 2007Since intentional islanding operation of Distributed Generation (DG) can increase system reliability, and reduce the customer outage cost due to loss of power supply from main grid, some utilities may permit islanding operation of DG. As a result, the impact study and operation criteria of DG for island operation should be performed.

Microgrid islanding operation experience
22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2013), 2013This paper describes the experience of islanding operation of a microgrid located in Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA)'s distribution network. The equipment for islanding operation and resynchronization were installed to enable the islanding operation of the microgrid.

Introducing matrix in islanding operation
2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific, 2009Splitting strategy is to ensure continuity of power system when islanding operation is unavoidable. Through the centralized control scheme, the dispatch center should decide which transmission lines to be opened to split original network into islands. This paper proposes a feasible splitting strategy by exploiting extended incidence matrix apart from ...
