Novel DMAP@Mesoporous Silica Hybrid Heterogeneous Catalysts for the Knoevenagel Condensation: Greener Synthesis through Eco‐friendly Solvents

open access: yesChemPlusChem, EarlyView.
This study presents a sustainable approach to functionalizing DMAP by introducing an aminomethyl group for stable anchoring on mesoporous silica supports, creating an effective, recyclable hybrid catalyst. Characterized by techniques like XRD, TGA, and FT‐IR, the hybrid retained stability and showed strong catalytic performance for the Knoevenagel ...

The additive value of patch testing non‐commercial test substances and patients' own products in a clinic of occupational dermatology

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, Volume 88, Issue 1, Page 27-34, January 2023., 2023
At the Finnish institute of Occupational Health in 2015–2019, we would have missed 39 (18.9%) of our 206 cases of OACD if we had solely used commercial test substances. Abstract Background Commercial patch test substances do not cover all occupational contact allergens.

Rethinking Chlorine: Essential Chemical or Replaceable Risk?

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
Chlorine is essential for the production of plastics and pharmaceuticals but poses significant safety and environmental risks. Herein, processes are presented that substitute chlorine or reduce its demand. Where indispensable, trichloride‐ and bichloride‐based ionic liquids could enhance safety and streamline the integration of renewable energy ...

En Route Toward Sustainable Polycarbonates Via Large Cyclic Carbonates

open access: yesChemSusChem, Accepted Article.
This review reports an up‐to‐date overview of the synthetic methodologies developed for the preparation of large cyclic organic carbonates with ≥ 6‐membered rings (6M‐CCs and above), highlighting the most sustainable synthetic pathways employing diols (including renewable‐based ones) and non‐hazardous carbonyl sources, e.g., linear organic carbonates ...

Acid‐Promoted Depolymerization of Poly(hydroxyurethane)s to Five‐Membered Cyclic Carbonates Toward Chemical Recycling

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
This study develops the depolymerization of poly(hydroxyurethane)s prepared from five‐membered cyclic carbonates (5CCs) and amines. Based on the model reaction of hydroxyurethanes with low‐molecular weight, this study examines the decomposition behavior and reveals that the trifluoroacetic acid promotes the transformation into a 5CC efficiently.

Recycling of Polyurethane via Mechanocatalytic Methanolysis/Hydrolysis

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
In this study, it is shown that up to 86% of soluble polyol can be recovered from the hydrolysis of polyurethane using a ball milling‐assisted process below 100 °C in the presence of NaOH, a small amount of H2O and a Cu/MgAlOx co‐catalyst. Polyurethane (PU) is the 6th most produced plastic on a global basis, and thus one of the most important targets ...
