Giardia duodenalis: Exposure to metronidazole inhibits competitive interactions between isolates of the parasite in vitro

open access: yes, 1996
The competitive interactions of genetically distinct isolates of Giardia duodenalis with different growth rates were studied in vitro. Electrophoretic analysis of mixed cultures showed that competition between 2 cloned isolates occurs under normal in ...

Distribution of antiseptic resistance genes in Staphylococcus spp. from bovine mastitis

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2017
The purpose of this study was the determination of antiseptic resistance genes (qacA/B and qacC) from staphylococcal mastitis in cattle in various regions of Turkey.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Multilocus genotypic analysis of Cryptosporidium parvum isolates from different hosts and geographical origins.

open access: yes, 1998
The genetic analysis of oocysts recovered from the stools of humans and animals infected with Cryptosporidium parvum has consistently shown the existence of two distinct genotypes.

Whole-genome comparison of two Acinetobacter baumannii isolates from a single patient, where resistance developed during tigecycline therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Objectives The whole genomes of two Acinetobacter baumannii isolates recovered from a single patient were sequenced to gain insight into the nature and extent of genomic plasticity in this important nosocomial pathogen over the course of a short ...

RefSoil+: a Reference Database for Genes and Traits of Soil Plasmids

open access: yesmSystems, 2019
Plasmids harbor transferable genes that contribute to the functional repertoire of microbial communities, yet their contributions to metagenomes are often overlooked.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Characterization of Giardia isolates using a non-radiolabeled DNA probe, and correlation with the results of isoenzyme analysis

open access: yes, 1989
Forty-seven isolates, identified morphologically as Giardia duodenalis, were compared by restriction endonuclease analysis of DNA with hybridization to a non-radiolabeled probe. Seven schizodemes were distinguished, compared to 15 zymodemes identified by

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Presence of double-stranded RNAs in human and calf isolates of Cryptosporidium parvum

open access: yes, 2000
We examined the occurrence of 2 virus-like double-stranded (ds)RNAs in human and calf isolates of Cryptosporidium parvum senso latu and other microorganisms, including 7 other members of the genus. A total of 32 isolates of C.
