Isolation and folk physics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
There is a huge chasm between the notion of lawful determination that figures in fundamental physics, and the notion of causal determination that figures in the "folk physics" of everyday objects. In everyday life, we think of the behavior of an ordinary

Cross section of isolated prompt photons in hadron-hadron collisions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We consider the production of isolated prompt photons in hadronic collisions. We present a general discussion in QCD perturbation theory of the isolation criterion used by hadron collider experiments.

FoxO1 signaling in B cell malignancies and its therapeutic targeting

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FoxO1 has context‐specific tumor suppressor or oncogenic character in myeloid and B cell malignancies. This includes tumor‐promoting properties such as stemness maintenance and DNA damage tolerance in acute leukemias, or regulation of cell proliferation and survival, or migration in mature B cell malignancies.

In Silico-Based Design and In Vivo Evaluation of an Anthranilic Acid Derivative as a Multitarget Drug in a Diet-Induced Metabolic Syndrome Model

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2021
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a complex disease that affects almost a quarter of the world’s adult population. In MetS, diabetes, obesity, hyperglycemia, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure are the most common disorders.

Insights into PI3K/AKT signaling in B cell development and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Review explores how the phosphoinositide 3‐kinase and protein kinase B pathway shapes B cell development and drives chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a common blood cancer. It examines how signaling levels affect disease progression, addresses treatment challenges, and introduces novel experimental strategies to improve therapies and patient outcomes.

Remote but not isolated

open access: yesTranslational Medicine of Aging, 2020
I helped organized an online seminar series for 1500 people with no planning. Here are some thoughts on how it went, what we learned, and how it might shape in person meetings in the future.

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Isolation and social instigation in animal models of aggression: effects of an mGLU1 receptor antagonist administration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Isolate-induced aggression in male mice is a model widely used in psychoparmacology of aggression. Animals are usually isolated for 30 days and subsequently treated and confronted with an anosmic opponent in a neutral area.
