Alexithymia and fear of pain independently predict heat pain intensity ratings among undergraduate university students. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Alexithymia is a disturbance in awareness and cognitive processing of affect that is associated with over‐reporting of physical symptoms, including pain. The relationship between alexithymia and other psychological constructs that are often associated with pain has yet to be evaluated.

Computed tomographic scan evaluation of pulmonary blastomycosis. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Blastomycosis is an uncommon granulomatous pulmonary and extrapulmonary infectious disease caused by the thermally dimorphic fungus Blastomyces dermatitidis. Diagnosis may be delayed or difficult because of varied presentation. The characteristics of blastomycosis on computed tomographic (CT) scan of the chest are not well characterized ...

Heliox simulations for initial management of congenital laryngotracheal stenosis
Abstract Objectives Congenital laryngotracheal stenosis is rare, potentially severe, and difficult to manage. Heliox is a medical gas effective in obstructive airway pathologies, given its physical properties. This study aims to model the interest of Heliox in reducing the respiratory work in congenital laryngotracheal stenosis, using numerical fluid ...

Optimum Trombe wall thickness in the Mediterranean Tunisian context: An energetic and economic study
Optimum Trombe wall thickness should be determined according to an energetic and economic analysis for each material used. The optimum thickness for stone and concrete are, respectively, 34 and 32 cm with a payback period of 2.85 and 2.65 years. Material with low thermal capacity, little optimum thickness are obtained but with the highest life cycle ...

Abstract Although vapor exchanged across hyper‐arid surfaces without free liquid affects the water budget of sand seas, its mechanism is poorly documented for want of accurate instruments with fine spatial resolution. To rectify this, we report bulk density profiles and spatiotemporal variations of vapor mass fraction just below the surface of a mobile

The bacteriorubin‐rich extract of Arthrobacter agilis has high antioxidative properties, protecting proteins against oxidative stress and preventing their carbonylation. It also protects proteins against saline and heat stresses, suggesting a dual mode of action including antioxidant and chaperone‐like activities.

Boron nitride for excitonics, nano photonics, and quantum technologies
Abstract We review the recent progress regarding the physics and applications of boron nitride bulk crystals and its epitaxial layers in various fields. First, we highlight its importance from optoelectronics side, for simple devices operating in the deep ultraviolet, in view of sanitary applications.
