Linear approximations of muscle mechanics in isometric contraction

Biological Cybernetics, 1977
The isolated rat gastrocnemius was submitted to tetanic stimulation, with and without a spring in series with the muscle. The resulting isometric myograms allowed description of the properties of simple muscle models which contained linear and non-linear components.

Isometric contraction and contractility in the intact mammalian ventricle

American Heart Journal, 1962
Abstract The developed tension, the time derivative of tension, and the time integral of tension of segments of cardiac muscle contracting isometrically under conditions of altered length and contractility have been studied. The result of an increase in fiber length when heart rate and contractility are constant is to increase the rate of tension ...

Isometric Contraction of the Extraocular Muscles

1978
For many years investigators have been trying to get a quantitative impression of the pulling power of eye muscles. Until about 1967 the only methods of assessment were Electromyography (EMG) and the Forced Duction Test (FDT). In particular, EMG is of great value.

Cardiovascular Adjustments To Isometric Contractions

1993
Abstract The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the cardiovascular adjustments to isometric contractions-also called isometric or static exercise-and to contrast these adjustments with those already described for dynamic exercise. This will provide background and set the stage for later chapters dealing with the reflexes that govern ...
