Force depression following a stretch-shortening cycle is independent of stretch peak force and work performed during shortening

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
The steady-state isometric force following active muscle shortening or lengthening is smaller (force depression; FD) or greater (residual force enhancement; RFE) than a purely isometric contraction at the corresponding length. The mechanisms behind these

Fatigue-Mediated Loss of Complexity is Contraction-Type Dependent in Vastus Lateralis Electromyographic Signals

open access: yesSports, 2019
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of fatigue status and contraction type on complexity of the surface electromyographic (sEMG) signal.

Why muscle is an efficient shock absorber. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Skeletal muscles power body movement by converting free energy of ATP hydrolysis into mechanical work. During the landing phase of running or jumping some activated skeletal muscles are subjected to stretch.

Mathematical model for isometric and isotonic muscle contractions

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Biology, 2017
A new mathematical model is presented to describe both the active and passive mechanics of muscles. In order to account for the active response, a two-layer kinematics that introduces both the visible and rest lengths of the muscle is presented within a rational mechanics framework.

Introducing PNEUMA: A Hybrid Soft Pneumatic Fabric Bidirectional Actuation Module for Wearable Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study presents a soft pneumatic fabric bidirectional actuation module (PNEUMA) capable of generating high torque in both bending directions within a single integrated architecture. PNEUMA achieves up to 50 Nm with reduced inflation volume and a lightweight design.

Ca2+ and force during dynamic contractions in mouse intact skeletal muscle fibers

open access: yesScientific Reports
Muscle fiber force production is determined by the excitation frequency of motor nerves, which induce transient increases in cytoplasmic free Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) and the force-generating capacity of the actomyosin cross-bridges. Previous studies

Effect of 1-acyl-5,6-dimethoxy / diethoxy-2-methylthiobenzimidazoles on APD90 and isometric contraction in guinea pig atrium and aortic preparations activated by carbachol and phenylephrine

open access: yesActa Medica Lituanica, 2010
Studies have shown that 1-acyl-5,6-diethoxy-2-methylthiobenzimidazole derivatives 3-pyridyl-(1); 2-pyridyl- (2); 4-thiazolyl- (3); 4-pyridyl- (4); methyl- (5); 2-thienyl- (6) and 1-acetyl-5,6-dimethoxy-2-methylthiobenzimidazole (7) exhibit positive ...

Effect of indomethacin on the pressor responses to sustained isometric contraction in humans [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that prostaglandins participate in metaboreceptor stimulation of the pressor response to sustained isometric handgrip contraction in humans. To accomplish this, mean arterial pressure, heart rate (n =

Integrated Opto–Biomechatronics For Single Muscle Fibre Structure‐Function Assessment: The MyoRobot 3.0

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present the MyoRobot 3.0, an advanced platform that combines high‐resolution imaging with automated mechanical testing to improve the accuracy of single muscle fibre analysis. The system tracks fibre diameter changes during stretch, preventing major stress miscalculations.
