Microstructural and ageing response assessment of eutectic Al-Cu alloy due to isothermal heat treatment in semisolid state

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2020
An as cast Al-33%Cu eutectic alloy has been processed by semisolid heat treatment, with the ultimate objective of developing a ductile and strong eutectic composite material for probable application as bearing materials and other sliding wear components.

Non-LTE Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer: II. Non-Isothermal Solutions for Viscous Keplerian Disks

open access: yes, 2008
We discuss the basic hydrodynamics that determines the density structure of the disks around hot stars. Observational evidence supports the idea that these disks are Keplerian (rotationally supported) gaseous disks.

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Analytic Time Delays and H_0 Estimates for Gravitational Lenses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We study gravitational lens time delays for a general family of lensing potentials, which includes the popular singular isothermal elliptical potential and singular isothermal elliptical density distribution but allows general angular structure.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Clinical performance of Abbott ID NOW™ COVID-19 2.0 rapid molecular point-of-care test compared to three real-time RT-PCR assays

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Timely diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 is important for infection control and treatment. Real-time reverse transcriptase PCR (rRT-PCR) tests are the reference standard for diagnosis but often require a centralized laboratory, making them time-intensive and ...

Formulation to Calculate Isothermal, Non-Newtonian Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication Problems Using a Pressure Gradient Coordinate System and Its Verification by an Experimental Grease

open access: yesLubricants, 2021
This paper presents a formulation of point contact elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis for an isothermal, non-Newtonian flow. A coordinate system of the pressure gradient was employed herein. A Couette flow and a Poiseuille flow were considered along

Propagation of arbitrary amplitude nonlinear quantum ion-acoustic waves in electron-ion plasmas: Dimensionality effects

open access: yes, 2010
Propagation of arbitrary-amplitude ion-acoustic solitary (IASWs) as well as periodic waves (IAPWs) is investigated in a fully degenerate quantum electron-ion plasma consisting of isothermal- or adiabatic-ion species.
