On the controllability of isotropic and anisotropic networks

53rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2014
This paper studies the controllability degree of complex networks as a function of the network weights and the location and number of control nodes. We quantify the controllability degree of a network with the worst-case control energy to drive the network to an arbitrary configuration.

Is Salt Isotropic or Anisotropic?

Proceedings, 2015
We challenge the common assumption that salt anisotropy can be ignored in velocity model building for seismic imaging. We present a case study for salt anisotropy and its impact on the estimation of salt body shape and the imaging of subsalt structures. First we discuss salt properties.

Isotropic and anisotropic electroconvection

Physics Reports, 2007
A systematic overview of various electric-field induced pattern forming instabilities in nematic liquid crystals is given. The standard hydrodynamic description of nematics predicts the occurrence of striped patterns (rolls) in various wavenumber ranges, which depend on the anisotropy of the dielectric permittivity and that of the electrical ...

Isotropic Convection Scenarios in an Anisotropic Fluid

Physical Review Letters, 2004
We study a new variant of electroconvection using a homeotropically aligned nematic liquid crystal. The novelty of this system is a direct transition to roll- or square-type patterns controlled by the frequency of the applied voltage with a rich crossover scenario and strong influence of the zigzag instability even at onset.

DTI MEASUREMENTS OF ISOTROPIC AND ANISOTROPIC MEDIA

Biomedizinische Technik/Biomedical Engineering, 2002
The ability to measure different rates of diffusion along different directions is one of the features that distinguish DTI from other imaging methods. It allows to extract and visualize information on tissue microstructure and microdynamics. However, to correctly determine the full diffusion tensor, the so-called b-matrix has to be calculated by taking

Isotropic and anisotropic interphases in polymer systems

Composite Interfaces, 2000
A polyisoprene-poly 4-vinyl pyridine (PIP/P4VP) diblock polymer has been used as adsorbate and adhesive on PVC and PMMA substrates. The diblock polymer is able to undergo surface restructuring, the rubber constituent being preferentially surface localized during contact with non-polar media, the P4VP moiety becoming dominant when in contact with polar ...
