STOCHASTIC GALERKIN DISCRETIZATION OF THE LOG-NORMAL ISOTROPIC DIFFUSION PROBLEM
Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2010The stochastic Galerkin method is developed for the isotropic diffusion equation with an unbounded random diffusion coefficient. The logarithm of the diffusion coefficient is assumed to be an infinite series of Gaussian random variables. Well-posed weak formulations of the model problem are derived on standard Bochner–Lebesgue spaces.

Non-parametric detection scheme for isotropic image texture with normal increments
2010 International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory, 2010We analyze applicability of 2D fractal Brownian motion (fBm) for real-life image textures with respect to two general fBm properties: isotropy and normality of its increments. A non-parametric detection scheme for texture satisfying these two properties is proposed.

An anatomical study of normal meniscal roots with isotropic 3D MRI at 3T
European Journal of Radiology, 2012To clarify the morphological features of normal meniscal roots on magnetic resonance (MR) imaging with an isotropic 3D proton density-weighted (PDW) sequence.3D PDW MR was performed in sixty-two patients at 3T before knee arthroscopy. MR images of 34 normal medial menisci and 33 intact lateral menisci confirmed by arthroscopy were retrospectively ...

Thermoelasticity problems for an isotropic medium with plane normal cleavage cracks
International Applied Mechanics, 1997The author proves a comparison theorem to estimate stress intensity factors for plane cracks of irregular shape under force and temperature loads. To this end the Hopf maximum principle and the established thermoelastic analogue are employed. Moreover, the input and embracing cracks are considered.

Normal Tractions in Simple Shear of Isotropic Bodies
1966Homogeneous motions of homogeneous simple bodies have been studied in Lecture 5. From the results there it follows as a special case that any static homogeneous deformation may be maintained by the effect of boundary tractions alone in any homogeneous simple body.

Normal moveout for long offset in isotropic media using the Padé approximation
Applied Geophysics, 2016The normal moveout correction is important to long-offset observations, especially deep layers. For isotropic media, the conventional two-term approximation of the normal moveout function assumes a small offset-to-depth ratio and thus fails at large offset-to-depth ratios. We approximate the long-offset moveout using the Pade approximation. This method

Analysis of a Transversely Isotropic Half Space Under Normal and Tangential Loadings
Journal of Tribology, 1991This paper analyzes the response of a transversely isotropic half space subjected to various distributions of normal and tangential contact stresses on its surface. Both the interior displacement and stress fields are given in closed form. Among them, rectangular patch solutions are constructed for application to solutions to non-Hertzian contact ...

Track etching model for normal incident heavy ion recording in isotropic dielectric detectors
International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation. Part D. Nuclear Tracks and Radiation Measurements, 1990Abstract Heavy ion recording in dielectric isotropic detectors has a wide range of applications in such areas as uranium cartography, neutron activation and fission track dating using the external detector method (EDM). It is important to have a good understanding of etch pit evolution during chemical etching.

In this paper, we examine the coupled electromechanical responses of transversely isotropic linear piezoelectric materials. In particular, we consider the boundary–initial-value problem which is consistent with the transverse- or normal-mode experiment and evaluate the effects of lateral boundary conditions on the electrical output of a rectangular ...
