Anomalous scaling in homogeneous isotropic turbulence [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2001
The anomalous scaling exponents $ _{n}$ of the longitudinal structure functions $S_{n}$ for homogeneous isotropic turbulence are derived from the Navier-Stokes equations by using field theoretic methods to develop a low energy approximation in which the Kolmogorov theory is shown to act effectively as a mean field theory.

Transient thermal modelling of green anode cooling in the aluminium industry

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Summary of the methodology. Abstract Anodes, which are used in electrolytic aluminium production, are made by mixing dry aggregate (petroleum coke, rejected anodes, and butts) with coal tar pitch, compacting the resulting paste (green anode), and baking (baked anode). After compaction, the anodes are cooled to maintain their structural integrity before

Plasmakristall‐4 Experiment: 10 Years of Operation in Orbit

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plasmakristall‐4 (PK‐4) is a microgravity complex plasma laboratory operated for 10 years on board the International Space Station. Its main purpose is the particle‐resolved investigation of generic condensed matter phenomena using strongly coupled suspensions of microparticles immersed in low‐pressure gas‐discharge plasmas.

Droplet breakup in homogeneous and isotropic turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This fluid dynamics video shows the breakup of a droplet in a stationary homogeneous and isotropic turbulent flow. We consider droplets with the same density of the transporting fluid.

Streamlines in stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence and fractal-generated turbulence [PDF]

open access: yesFluid Dynamics Research, 2016
We compare streamline statistics in stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence and in turbulence generated by a fractal square grid. We examine streamline segments characterised by the velocity difference and the distance l between extremum points. We find close agreement between the stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence and the decay region of ...

A Review of Black Phosphorus‐Based Materials: From Preparation Strategies to Characterization Techniques

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
The structure, properties, preparation methods, and characterization techniques of BP. As a typical 2D layered material, black phosphorus (BP) demonstrates exceptional promise in various fields, particularly in energy storage for alkali metal‐ion batteries. However, its distinctive structure and properties, together with the compositional complexity of

Forward and backward multi-particle dispersion in homogeneous isotropic turbulence

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
Turbulent diffusion in homogeneous isotropic turbulence is numerically investigated using the direct numerical simulation (DNS). The four-dimensional turbulence database allows us to track fluid particles not only in the forward direction of time but ...

Multi-Scale Turbulence Injector: a new tool to generate intense homogeneous and isotropic turbulence for premixed combustion

open access: yes, 2010
Nearly homogeneous and isotropic, highly turbulent flow, generated by an original multi-scale injector is experimentally studied. This multi-scale injector is made of three perforated plates shifted in space such that the diameter of their holes and ...

Helicity statistics in homogeneous and isotropic turbulence and turbulence models [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Fluids, 2017
We study the statistical properties of helicity in direct numerical simulations of fully developed homogeneous and isotropic turbulence and in a class of turbulence shell models. We consider correlation functions based on combinations of vorticity and velocity increments that are not invariant under mirror symmetry. We also study the scaling properties

Scour‐Conditioned Seismic Fragility Analysis of Monopile‐Supported Offshore Wind Turbines

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Monopile‐supported offshore wind turbines (MS‐OWTs) are increasingly deployed in seismic coastal regions, where they face compound risks from earthquake loading and seabed scour. While past studies have addressed these hazards separately, seismic fragility under evolving scour conditions remains insufficiently understood. This study introduces
