Global Anomalies in chiral gauge theories on the lattice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We discuss the issue of global anomalies in chiral gauge theories on the lattice. In Luscher's approach, these obstructions make it impossible to define consistently a fermionic measure for the path integral.

Unscreened water-diversion pipes pose an entrainment risk to the threatened green sturgeon, Acipenser medirostris. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Over 3,300 unscreened agricultural water diversion pipes line the levees and riverbanks of the Sacramento River (California) watershed, where the threatened Southern Distinct Population Segment of green sturgeon, Acipenser medirostris, spawn.

Magnetic Fields in Star-Forming Molecular Clouds I. The First Polarimetry of OMC-3 in Orion A [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The first polarimetric images of the OMC-3 region of the Orion A filamentary molecular cloud are presented. Using the JCMT, we have detected polarized thermal emission at 850 microns from dust along a 6' length of the dense filament.

Sensitive limits on the abundance of cold water vapor in the DM Tau protoplanetary disk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We performed a sensitive search for the ground-state emission lines of ortho- and para-water vapor in the DM Tau protoplanetary disk using the Herschel/HIFI instrument. No strong lines are detected down to 3sigma levels in 0.5 km/s channels of 4.2 mK for

Transiting extrasolar planetary candidates in the Galactic bulge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
More than 200 extrasolar planets have been discovered around relatively nearby stars, primarily through the Doppler line shifts owing to the reflex motions of their host stars, and more recently through transits of some planets across the face of the ...

A Companion Galaxy to the Post-Starburst Quasar UN J1025-0040 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
UN J1025-0040 is a quasar at z = 0.6344 that shows an extremely bright post starburst population of age ~ 400 Myr (Brotherton et al. 1999). Images of UN J1025-0040 show a nearly stellar object 4.2 arcseconds SSW of the quasar.
