A VLSI design concept for parallel iterative algorithms [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Radio Science, 2009
Modern VLSI manufacturing technology has kept shrinking down to the nanoscale level with a very fast trend. Integration with the advanced nano-technology now makes it possible to realize advanced parallel iterative algorithms directly which was almost ...

Fractal-Based Thinned Planar-Array Design Utilizing Iterative FFT Technique

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2012
This paper investigated the synthesis problem of fractal-based thinned planar arrays by using the iterative Fourier technique (IFT). Since an inverse discrete Fourier transform relationship exists between the array factor and the element excitations for ...

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

On Iterative Detection, Demodulation and Decoding for OFDM-CDM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper, we address iterative receiver processing for OFDM code division multiplexing (OFDM-CDM). The receiver algorithm we focus on is soft parallel interference cancellation in combination with a-priori demodulation.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

Experimental evaluation of iterative learning control algorithms for non-minimum phase plants

open access: yes, 2005
The purpose of this paper is two-fold, firstly it describes the development and modelling of an experimental test facility as a platform on which to assess the performance of Iterative Learning Control (ILC) schemes.

Two-Dimensional Iterative Source-Channel Decoding for Distributed Video Coding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Motivated by the Joint Source-Channel Decoding (JSCD) principle of exploiting the source redundancy, in this treatise we study the application of iterative source-channel decoding (ISCD) conceived for distributed video coding (DVC), where the video ...

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Structural and biochemical insights into the thermostable esterase Ta0887 from Thermoplasma acidophilum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...
