Do Firms Disclose Financially Material ESG Risks? Evidence From Japanese Food and Beverage Firms Using a Text Match Pretrained Transformer

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study develops a financial materiality‐oriented measure of ESG disclosure and examines how sustainability disclosures respond to evolving regulatory frameworks. Focusing on listed food and beverage firms in Japan from 2020 to 2024, we apply the Text Match Pretrained Transformer (TMPT) to assess the semantic relevance between disclosures ...

Impact of health facility-based insecticide treated bednet distribution in Malawi: progress and challenges towards achieving universal coverage. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
High levels of insecticide treated bednet (ITN) use reduce malaria burden in countries with intense transmission such as Malawi. Since 2007 Malawi has implemented free health facility-based ITN distribution for pregnant women and children

Role of SoxE transcription factors in development and disease

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Sox8, Sox9, and Sox10 arose by multiple rounds of genome duplications from a single SoxE gene in ancestral vertebrates. In this review, we will briefly discuss the molecular structure and function of SoxE transcription factors and their evolutionary origin. We will then discuss their expression, function, and developmental disorders.

Seeded Growth of Plasmonic Core‐Shell NU‐1000 NanoMOFs With Intracellular Optical Readout

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Seed‐mediated growth yields plasmonic core‐shell nanocomposites by encapsulating gold nanoparticles within NU‐1000 nanoMOFs, preserving morphology and optical response. The materials exhibit tunable photoluminescence quenching, efficient photothermal heating, and SERS activity.

Design and validation of a deep evolutionary time visual instrument (DET-Vis)

open access: yesEvolution: Education and Outreach, 2022
Understanding deep evolutionary time is crucial for biology education and for conceptualizing evolutionary history. Although such knowledge might help citizens contemplate their actions in the context of human existence, understanding deep evolutionary ...

A 4D‐STEM Tomographic Framework Assisted by Object Tracking for Nanoparticle Structure Determination

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
4D‐STEM tomography is used as a new methodology for 3D ED data acquisition to solve structures. Object tracking and segmentation methods are applied for the extraction of 3D ED datasets from regions of interest in a 4D‐STEM tomogram. Owing to its nanometric resolution, 4D‐STEM tomography can tackle challenging samples being too small for 3D ED, have ...

Determinants of use of insecticide treated nets for the prevention of malaria in pregnancy: Jinja, Uganda.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BackgroundOne established means of preventing the adverse consequences of malaria during pregnancy is sleeping under an insecticide treated net (ITN) throughout pregnancy. Despite increased access to this intervention over time, consistent ITN use during

The Persistence of Poverty from Childhood to Early Adulthood in Australia*

open access: yesEconomic Record, EarlyView.
Drawing on 22 years of longitudinal data from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia Survey, we investigate how exposure to poverty in childhood is associated with poverty risk in early adulthood. We find a substantial and highly non‐linear gradient in poverty persistence from childhood into early adulthood.
