Factors influencing the toxicity of salivary gland extracts of Ixodes holocyclus Neumann
International Journal for Parasitology, 1978Abstract A bioassay using mice was developed to compare the toxin content of extracts of salivary glands of I. holocyclus at various stages of feeding. The quantity of toxin increased rapidly from the third day of feeding. Toxin production continued and increased in ticks removed after 3–5 days on mice and held at 30°C at 92% RH for 24 h, whereas no ...

Aggregation pheromones in 2 Australian hard ticks, Ixodes holocyclus and Aponomma concolor
Experientia, 1977The presence of an aggregation pheromone has been demonstrated for the first time in indigenous Australian ticks. Filter paper discs exposed to either Australian paralysis ticks Ixodes holocyclus or echidna ticks Aponomma concolor showed inter-sex or intra-sex attraction for ticks of their own species.

Infestation in the dog by the paralysis tick, Ixodes holocyclus — 4. Cardiovascular effects
Australian Veterinary Journal, 1988SUMMARY: To determine the extent and signficance of changes in heart rate and rhythm noticed previously in dogs paralysed with Ixodes holocyclus, two studies were undertaken. In one the electrocardiogram was recorded at stages throughout the disease and the traces analysed for changes, while in the second a detailed study of the effect of Ixodes ...

Infestation in the dog by the paralysis tick Ixodes holocyclus 3. Respiratory effects
Australian Veterinary Journal, 1987To assess respiratory function in dogs with tick paralysis, respiratory measurements were recorded on 14 dogs experimentally infested with Ixodes holocyclus. There was a progressive fall in respiratory rate with no change in tidal volume, which resulted in a significant fall in minute respiratory volume in the latter stages of the disease.

We inferred the phylogenetic and phylogeographic relationships in ticks, which were identified morphologically as Ixodes holocyclus and Ixodes cornuatus, from mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (COX1) and nuclear internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) sequences.

Human hypersensitivity to the Australian paralysis tick, Ixodes holocyclus
2017The aims of this project were three-fold: (1) to develop diagnostic assays to identify individuals who were allergic to the Australian paralysis tick, Ixodes holocyclus; (2) to identify, isolate and purify, either wholly or partially, the causal allergen(s) and (3) to use these techniques and knowledge to study the nature of the poorly understood ...

Histology of bovine skin reactions to Ixodes holocyclus Neumann.
Canadian journal of comparative medicine : Revue canadienne de medecine comparee, 1977The histology of skin responses to infestations with female Ixodes holocyclus ticks was investigated in naive and previously infested cattle. In the latter hosts, infiltration of the skin site with basophil leucocytes was an early event. Concurrent spongiosis and vesiculation occurred in the epidermis adjacent to the tick mouthparts.
