Pre‐Encoded IFN‐I Sensitivity Exacerbates Memory T Cell Senescence in Solid Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Type I interferon (IFN‐I) signaling promotes p21‐dependent cell cycle arrest in senescent tumor‐specific memory T cells, resulting in poor proliferative responses and solid tumor regression during cancer vaccination. Conversely, IFNα/β receptor blockade reinvigorates T cell proliferation to regress solid tumors and is more effective with increasing ...

Hambre cero y conservación de la biodiversidad. Desafíos para la conservación de depredadores tope y la ganadería sostenible en Latinoamérica

open access: yesNaturaleza y Sociedad: Desafíos Medioambientales, 2022
La conservación de la biodiversidad y el desarrollo de la ganadería no han ido de la mano en Latinoamérica. Por un lado, la ganadería tiene como prioridad proveer proteína de origen animal a las comunidades locales; y, por otro, el creciente cambio de ...

From Sapore to Sapere : the gustatory perception of elsewhere in Calvino’s ‘Under the Jaguar Sun’ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This essay seeks to show how the gustatory perception of “elsewhere” intensifies human sapience of not only the exotic Other, but also of the self. In other words, it argues that Calvino’s desire to communicate with flavours in ‘Under the Jaguar Sun’ can

The numbers of the beast: Valuation of jaguar (Panthera onca) tourism and cattle depredation in the Brazilian Pantanal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Large carnivores fascinate people because of their beauty and potential as human predators and have therefore become focal species for the ecotourism industry.

Sertoli Cell‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Orchestrate Cadmium‐Induced Testicular Inflammation and Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Environmental cadmium exposure disrupts testicular homeostasis through a novel intercellular communication axis. Stressed Sertoli cells release extracellular vesicles carrying damage‐associated molecular patterns and mitochondrial fragments, which activate macrophages via TLR4/NF‐κB signaling.

2HOT: An Improved Parallel Hashed Oct-Tree N-Body Algorithm for Cosmological Simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We report on improvements made over the past two decades to our adaptive treecode N-body method (HOT). A mathematical and computational approach to the cosmological N-body problem is described, with performance and scalability measured up to 256k ($2^{18}

The Trichinella Super‐Pangenome Reveals the Evolution of Encapsulation and Predicted Host–Parasite Protein Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The muscle capsule of Trichinella is a critical structure that impedes immune attacks and drug penetration, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying its formation remain poorly understood. Using a high‐quality super‐pangenome comprising 12 Trichinella species, we compared extensive genomic variations between encapsulating and non‐encapsulating ...

Jaguar Attack on a Child: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesWestern Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2015
Jaguar attacks on humans rarely occur in the wild. When they do, they are often fatal. We describe a jaguar attack on a three-year-old girl near her home deep in a remote area of the Guyanese jungle.

Directed Evolution Improves the Catalytic Efficiency of APEX2‐Mediated Proximity‐Dependent RNA Labeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Engineered ascorbate peroxidase APEX2 has been widely used for spatially restricted profiling of subcellular biomolecules, but its catalytic efficiency toward newly developed probes such as biotin‐aniline (Btn‐An) remains suboptimal. To overcome this limitation, we performed yeast surface display‐based directed evolution to enhance APEX2 ...

Identification of priority conservation areas and potential corridors for jaguars in the Caatinga biome, Brazil.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The jaguar, Panthera onca, is a top predator with the extant population found within the Brazilian Caatinga biome now known to be on the brink of extinction. Designing new conservation units and potential corridors are therefore crucial for the long-term
