Photoperiod-Specific Expression of Eyes Absent 3 Splice Variant in the Pars Tuberalis of the Japanese Quail

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2021
The molecular mechanism underlying photoperiodic response in seasonal breeding animals such as the Japanese quail, red jungle fowl, sheep, mouse, and hamster involves thyroid-stimulating hormone beta subunit (TSHβ) mRNA expression in the pars tuberalis ...

Mating Behavior of Japanese Quail

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1973
Abstract A series of experiments was conducted to establish criteria for characterizing the mating behavior of Japanese quail. A reliable criterion for males consisted of observing the cumulative number of completed matings occurring during eight 8-minute test periods. Males were tested singly in flocks of 3 to 6 females.

Detection of a novel single nucleotide polymorphism in IGF2 gene with a negative impact on egg production and body weight in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica)

open access: yesJournal of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Background Insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) is one of three hormones that share high structural similarity to insulin. It is involved in several insulin-like growth-regulating and mitogenic activities.

Developmental stages of the Japanese quail

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, 2009
AbstractDevelopmental biology research has used various avian species as model organisms for studying morphogenesis, with the chick embryo being used by the majority of groups. The focus on the chick embryo led Hamburger and Hamilton to develop their definitive staging series nearly 60 years ago and this series is still the mainstay of all laboratories

A Triorchid Japanese Quail

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1965
Abstract While conducting a series of experiments with Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) from the California random line 908, an adult male was found possessing three testes (Fig. 1). The left testis was normal in size (0.923 gm.). The right testis was divided, the cranial portion being larger (0.344 gm.) than the caudal portion (0.284 gm.).
