JATROPHA CURCAS L. Stem cortex has scattered laticifers. Wood is just formed. Vascular cambium occurs in the entire circumference Some phloem is visible. Pith has some amyloplasts. Caudex cortex is chlorenchymatous and it has druses and scattered laticifers. Wood is diffused fibrous.

Acta Horticulturae, 2012Jatropha curcas L. is an important oil crop for biofuel production. As such, the yield is commercially important and breeding programmes are focused to select and propagate high yielding individuals. Haploid plants are very useful in these programmes to produce true homozygotes in a short period of time.

Acute Toxicity Studies with Jatropha curcas L
Human Toxicology, 1986The seeds of Jatropha curcas L. ingested accidentally by two children aged 3 and 5 years led to a clinical syndrome of restlessness, severe vomiting and dehydration. A systematic study of the seeds indicated that they produced toxic effects in mice. Macroscopic anal haemorrhage and death occurred when the seeds were administered with the feed.
