Seven Means, Generalized Triangular Discrimination, and Generating Divergence Measures

open access: yesInformation, 2013
Jensen-Shannon, J-divergence and Arithmetic-Geometric mean divergences are three classical divergence measures known in the information theory and statistics literature.

Skewed Jensen—Fisher Divergence and Its Bounds

open access: yes, 2021
A non-uniform (skewed) mixture of probability density functions occurs in various disciplines. One needs a measure of similarity to the respective constituents and its bounds.

Segmentation of DNA into Coding and Noncoding Regions Based on Recursive Entropic Segmentation and Stop-Codon Statistics

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2004
Heterogeneous DNA sequences can be partitioned into homogeneous domains that are comprised of the four nucleotides A, C, G, and T and the stop-codons.

A Jensen-Shannon Divergence Kernel for Directed Graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Recently, kernel methods have been widely employed to solve machine learning problems such as classification and clustering. Although there are many existing graph kernel methods for comparing patterns represented by undirected graphs, the corresponding methods for directed structures are less developed.

An Entropy Formulation Based on the Generalized Liouville Fractional Derivative

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
This paper presents a new formula for the entropy of a distribution, that is conceived having in mind the Liouville fractional derivative. For illustrating the new concept, the proposed definition is applied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Moreover,

Cell type-specific genome scans of DNA methylation divergence indicate an important role for transposable elements

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2020
In population genomics, genetic diversity measures play an important role in genome scans for divergent sites. In population epigenomics, comparable tools are rare although the epigenome can vary at several levels of organization. We propose a model-free,

Dose‐Dependent Reprogramming of Chromatin Accessibility by SOX4 Drives the Transcriptional Response to Iron Overload

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that iron overload triggers widespread chromatin compaction and transcriptional repression in human granulosa cells, recapitulating features of endometriosis. The epigenetic reprogramming is orchestrated by a TFEB‐SOX4‐SWI/SNF axis, with SOX4 acting as a central, dosage‐sensitive regulator.

Reinnervation of Muscle Targets Enhances the Separability of Motor Unit Signals Following Peripheral Nerve Transfers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Injured or cut peripheral nerves can be surgically rerouted to reinnervate new muscle targets. This study demonstrates reinnervated muscles exhibit enhanced separability between individual motor unit signals, which can simplify signal recording and decomposition. These findings highlight the potential of reinnervated muscle to serve as a key biological

Generalized Jensen and Jensen–Mercer inequalities for strongly convex functions with applications

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications
Strongly convex functions as a subclass of convex functions, still equipped with stronger properties, are employed through several generalizations and improvements of the Jensen inequality and the Jensen–Mercer inequality.
