An Alternative to Entropy in the Measurement of Information [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2004
: Entropy has been the main tool in the analysis of the concept of information since information theory was conceived in the work of Shannon more than fifty years ago.

Fluctuation of Information Entropy Measures in Cell Image [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
A simple, label-free cytometry technique is introduced. It is based on the analysis of the fluctuation of image Gray Level Information Entropy (GLIE) which is shown to reflect intracellular biophysical properties like generalized entropy.

Generalised information and entropy measures in physics [PDF]

open access: yesContemporary Physics, 2009
The formalism of statistical mechanics can be generalized by starting from more general measures of information than the Shannon entropy and maximizing those subject to suitable constraints. We discuss some of the most important examples of information measures that are useful for the description of complex systems.

Properties of Risk Measures of Generalized Entropy in Portfolio Selection

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
This paper systematically investigates the properties of six kinds of entropy-based risk measures: Information Entropy and Cumulative Residual Entropy in the probability space, Fuzzy Entropy, Credibility Entropy and Sine Entropy in the fuzzy space, and ...

A Fractional (q,q) Non-Extensive Information Dimension for Complex Networks

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2023
This article introduces a new fractional approach to the concept of information dimensions in complex networks based on the (q,q′)-entropy proposed in the literature. The q parameter measures how far the number of sub-systems (for a given size ε) is from

Entropy Measures for Interval Neutrosophic Vague Sets and Their Application in Decision Making [PDF]

open access: yesNeutrosophic Sets and Systems, 2021
Entropy measure is an important tool in measuring uncertain information and plays a vital role in solving Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM). At present, various entropy measures in literature are developed to measure the degree of fuzziness. However,

Some Information Measures Properties of the GOS-Concomitants from the FGM Family

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
In this paper we recall, extend and compute some information measures for the concomitants of the generalized order statistics (GOS) from the Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern (FGM) family.

Information Entropy and Measures of Market Risk [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
In this paper we investigate the relationship between the information entropy of the distribution of intraday returns and intraday and daily measures of market risk. Using data on the EUR/JPY exchange rate, we find a negative relationship between entropy and intraday Value-at-Risk, and also between entropy and intraday Expected Shortfall.

Recent developments in quantitative graph theory: information inequalities for networks. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
In this article, we tackle a challenging problem in quantitative graph theory. We establish relations between graph entropy measures representing the structural information content of networks.

Entropy measures vs. algorithmic information [PDF]

open access: yes2010 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2010
Algorithmic entropy and Shannon entropy are two conceptually different information measures, as the former is based on size of programs and the later in probability distributions. However, it is known that, for any recursive probability distribution, the expected value of algorithmic entropy equals its Shannon entropy, up to a constant that depends ...
