Longitudinal 3D‐DCE MRI Assessment of Placental Perfusion Under Reduced Uterine Perfusion Pressure in Pregnant Rats

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 4, April 2026.
This first application of longitudinal 3D‐DCE MRI in the RUPP model demonstrated acute perfusion deficits after RUPP that resolved rapidly with advancing gestation, consistent with the adaptive placental responses to reduced uterine blood flow. ABSTRACT Placental insufficiency is a major cause of preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction.

Supervised Swin Transformer‐Based Predictive Lithological Mapping and Uncertainty Quantification Using Aeromagnetic and Gravity Data

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Lithological mapping is essential for the exploration of critical minerals supporting energy transition and national defense. Although recent advancements have incorporated multi‐source data sets and leveraged machine learning and deep learning (DL) methods, lithological mapping continues to face significant challenges, such as data imbalance,

Numerical Water Tracers in the Atmospheric Component of the Energy Exascale Earth System Model: Implementation and Changes in Moisture Origin

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Numerical water tracers are implemented in the Energy Exascale Earth System Model version 2. Simulations performed with the water‐tag‐enabled model for both pre‐industrial and future greenhouse gas concentrations reveal a marked increase in the role of mid‐latitude and southern subtropical regions as exporters of atmospheric moisture—to the ...

Correlations of Cross-Entropy Loss in Machine Learning

open access: yesEntropy
Cross-entropy loss is crucial in training many deep neural networks. In this context, we show a number of novel and strong correlations among various related divergence functions.

Pollinator Visitation Alters Cranberry Flower Fungal Communities in Wisconsin Cranberry Agroecosystems

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
A two‐year study reveals shared fungal communities between cranberry flowers and insect visitors, including Apis mellifera, Bombus species, solitary bees and hover flies. Greater fungal richness was present in pollinator‐accessible flowers compared to those that were tented.

Spatial Patterns and Overlap of Sedimentary and Rhizosphere Microbiomes of the Seagrass Zostera capensis

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
Sedimentary microbiomes and, for the first time, rhizosphere microbiomes of Zostera capensis, South Africa's most abundant seagrass, were characterised using 16S rRNA metabarcoding across three estuaries. After accounting for seawater‐derived microbes, we found that sediment and rhizosphere communities largely overlapped but also harbor distinct core ...

A Class of New Metrics for n-Dimensional Unit Hypercube

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2013
We study the metric on the n-dimensional unit hypercube. We introduce a class of new metrics for the space, which is information theoretically motivated and has close relation to Jensen-Shannon divergence.

A Novel Sequence-Based Feature for the Identification of DNA-Binding Sites in Proteins Using Jensen–Shannon Divergence

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
The knowledge of protein-DNA interactions is essential to fully understand the molecular activities of life. Many research groups have developed various tools which are either structure- or sequence-based approaches to predict the DNA-binding residues in

Seasonal and Diurnal Patterns of Harbor Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) Behavior and the Disruptive Effects of Vessel Presence in a High‐Traffic Coastal Habitat

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 42, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Chronic anthropogenic activity is an ongoing threat to the marine environment and presents unique challenges in shallow, coastal habitats where harbor porpoises reside. Harbor porpoises have high metabolic needs and are highly susceptible to negative environmental factors; however, no long‐term studies have been conducted on wild populations ...

Revisiting the Characterization of Resting Brain Dynamics with the Permutation Jensen–Shannon Distance

open access: yesEntropy
Taking into account the complexity of the human brain dynamics, the appropriate characterization of any brain state is a challenge not easily met. Actually, even the discrimination of simple behavioral tasks, such as resting with eyes closed or eyes open,
