What works in internal alternative provision? A salutogenic analysis

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Schools across England are setting up ‘internal alternative provision’ to meet the social, emotional and mental health needs of increasing numbers of pupils at risk of suspension, exclusion and absence. However, there is little guidance about what good practice looks like.

The Serotonin 2B (5‐HT2B) Receptor: A Narrative Review of Preclinical and Clinical Evidence on the Safety Considerations and Therapeutic Potential for the Treatment of Depression

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Major depressive disorder (MDD) and treatment‐resistant depression (TRD) remain leading causes of disability, providing the impetus for receptor‐level treatment strategies beyond monoamine reuptake. The serotonin 5‐HT2B receptor (5‐HT2BR) is uniquely positioned at the interface of central‐antidepressant mechanisms and peripheral cardiac risks.

Minimum jerk motion planning for a prosthetic finger

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper we propose a method, based on both physiologic and engineering considerations, for the motion planning of a prosthetic finger. In particular, we exploit a minimum jerk approach to define the trajectory in the Cartesian space.

Acoustic‐driven surface cleaning with millimeter‐sized bubbles at translational resonance

open access: yesDroplet, EarlyView.
Time‐lapse visualization comparing bubble trajectories. The top panel (0 Hz) shows a bubble's linear path under no acoustic forcing, while the bottom panel (50 Hz) demonstrates the oscillatory motion induced by acoustic waves at a resonance mode. This mechanism holds promising potential for applications such as surface cleaning.

Fhod3 in zebrafish supports myofibril stability during growth of embryonic skeletal muscle

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Actin filament organization in cardiomyocytes critically depends on the formin Fhod3, but a role for Fhod3 in skeletal muscle development has not yet been described. Results We demonstrate here that in zebrafish mutated for one of two fhod3 paralog genes, fhod3a, skeletal muscle of the trunk appears normal through 2 days post ...

Age-associated changes in head jerk while walking reveal altered dynamic stability in older people

open access: yes, 2014
Many older people have impaired dynamic stability, and up to one in three people over 65 fall each year. It is thought that older people walk more slowly to compensate for reduced capabilities.

Digital Rights Activism in Multilevel Governance

open access: yesEuropean Policy Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Multilevel governance (MLG) without a clear hierarchical structure can create power imbalances among various actors, particularly in settings with overlapping jurisdictions and policy areas. This dynamic is especially pronounced in Internet governance, which faces a complex interplay of domestic laws, state interdependence, and heightened ...

Kinematic Indicators as Complementary Performance Metrics for PID and Fuzzy Speed Controllers in Rover Actuators

open access: yesActuators
This work presents an experimental comparison of three speed control strategies for a permanent magnet DC (PMDC) rover actuator implemented on a resource-constrained embedded microcontroller platform. The system operates under fixed-rate discrete control

Ictal semiology in fronto‐opercular epilepsy: A systematic review

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract A systematic review of the ictal semiology of fronto‐opercular seizures in focal epilepsy was carried out to assess possible anatomical‐clinical correlations and help guide interpretation of ictal semiology during pre‐surgical evaluation. PubMed and Embase databases were searched using the following keywords: “fronto‐opercular OR frontal ...
