Visualization of jet flow generated by a flat-fronted train entering a tunnel

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
When a train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated and propagates through the tunnel towards the other side of the tunnel portal, emitting a micro-pressure wave.

Low Cycle Repetitive Loading of Ti‐6Al‐4V‐Epoxy Composite Lattice Structures for Enhanced Energy Dissipation and Damage Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Composite Ti–6Al–4V–epoxy lattice structures are additively manufactured and epoxy infiltrated for cyclic loading. At low lattice volume fractions, hybridization produces synergistic gains in stiffness and energy dissipation. At higher volume fractions, synergy diminishes, although composites still exceed metallic lattices in specific energy ...

Is tokenization needed for masked particle modeling?

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
In this work, we significantly enhance masked particle modeling (MPM), a self-supervised learning scheme for constructing highly expressive representations of unordered sets relevant to developing foundation models for high-energy physics.

Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...

Noise Reduction Using Synthetic Microjet Excitation in Supersonic Rectangular Jets

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This work explores a potential methodology for rectangular jet noise reduction that employs nozzle unsteady microjet excitation. Using high-fidelity computational studies and spectral analyses, major jet noise sources impacted by the applied actuation ...

Feasibility of Nitrogen as a Carrier Gas for Inconel Cold Spray in Hydropower Application

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
N2, despite being nearly two orders of magnitude cheaper than He, is a feasible carrier gas for cold spray Inconel coatings in hydropower repair applications when higher gas temperature and pressure are used. Reducing powder size significantly improved cavitation resistance, while the addition of fine chromium carbide particles further enhanced erosion

Spinning Jets

open access: yes, 2000
A fluid jet with a finite angular velocity is subject to centripetal forces in addition to surface tension forces. At fixed angular momentum, centripetal forces become large when the radius of the jet goes to zero. We study the possible importance of this observation for the pinching of a jet within a slender jet model.

Unconditional jetting [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2008
Capillary jetting of a fluid dispersed into another immiscible phase is usually limited by a critical Capillary number, a function of the Reynolds number and the fluid properties ratios. Critical conditions are set when the minimum spreading velocity of small perturbations $v^*_-$ along the jet (marginal stability velocity) is zero.

Oxygen‐Tunnel Indium Tin Oxide Vertical Channel Transistors with Enhanced Current Density and Reliability for Monolithic 3D Compute‐In‐Memory Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxygen‐tunnel (OT) indium tin oxide (ITO) vertical channel transistors (VCTs) enable reliable, high‐density gain‐cell memory for monolithic 3D integration. A sandwiched SiN/SiO2/SiN OT stack selectively regulates oxygen transport, suppressing parasitic electrode oxidation while stabilizing channel oxygen vacancies, thereby suppressing carrier injection
