Exploring jet substructure in semi-visible jets [PDF]

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2021
Semi-visible jets arise in strongly interacting dark sectors, where parton evolution includes dark sector emissions, resulting in jets overlapping with missing transverse momentum. The implementation of semi-visible jets is done using the Pythia Hidden valley module to duplicate the QCD sector showering.

Resolving extreme jet substructure

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
AbstractWe study the effectiveness of theoretically-motivated high-level jet observables in the extreme context of jets with a large number of hard sub-jets (up toN= 8). Previous studies indicate that high-level observables are powerful, interpretable tools to probe jet substructure forN≤ 3 hard sub-jets, but that deep neural networks trained on low ...

Jets and jet substructure

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012
The understanding of jets and jet substructure has rapidly become a topic of high activity in both the theoretical and experimental communities. Many new physics models involve highly boosted hadronically-decaying particles, which result in jet-like objects with large intrinsic masses and well-separated constituents.

Measurements of jet substructure in quark and gluon jets

Nuclear and Particle Physics Proceedings, 2021
Abstract Many analyses now rely upon jet substructure techniques; it is therefore paramount to understand the substructure of quark and gluon jets. However, there is still significant disagreement between Monte Carlo generators, especially in their modelling of gluon jets.

Jet substructure

International Journal of Modern Physics E
Jet substructure observables hold the keys to identifying the inner working of the quark–gluon plasma through its imprints in jet modification patterns. Because of the multi-scale nature of jet evolution, the strategy has focused on developing jet reclustering-based and jet shape-based observables to specifically probe different stages of jet ...

Jet Substructure at the LHC

2021
Before applying jet substructure methods to experimental data, the detector response to jets, to regions of high energy density within jets and even to individual particles has to be studied. This chapter introduces the ATLAS and CMS detectors in the light of jet substructure applications.
