Dynamic background of the 2017 Ms7.0 Jiuzhaigou (China) earthquake

Arabian Journal of Geosciences, 2021
A Ms7.0 earthquake occurred in Jiuzhaigou in the Sichuan Province of China on August 8, 2017. The few published reports on this earthquake have focused on the seismogenic structure and the focal mechanism, but there is currently no detailed account of the dynamic process of this earthquake.

Disaster policy and emergency management reforms in China: From Wenchuan earthquake to Jiuzhaigou earthquake

International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, 2021
Abstract The article addresses policy changes and reforms in emergency management system in China comparing two major earthquakes. The Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 helped to uncover problems with the Chinese emergency management system. Almost a decade later, the Jiuzhaigou earthquake in 2017 also mobilized a national disaster response.

Assessment of debris-flow potential dangers in the Jiuzhaigou Valley following the August 8, 2017, Jiuzhaigou earthquake, western China

Engineering Geology, 2019
Abstract On August 8, 2017, an Ms 7.0 earthquake occurred at the Jiuzhaigou World Natural and Cultural Heritage, Sichuan Province, southwestern China. Eighty-three earthquake-induced landslides that directly damaged the Jiuzhaigou heritage sites were identified via remote-sensing interpretation and field survey.

Identification and deformation analysis of potential landslides after the Jiuzhaigou earthquake by SBAS-InSAR

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2023
A World Natural Heritage Site, Jiuzhaigou, is the first nature reserve in China whose primary purpose is to protect natural scenery. On August 8, 2017, a Ms 7.0 earthquake caused many unstable slopes in Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan Province, China. In the extreme storm conditions that follow, the unstable slopes tend to develop into potential landslides, which ...

Jiuzhaigou Tourist Perceptions of Wenchuan Earthquake

2010 International Conference on Management and Service Science, 2010
This study is designed to explore the relationship between the Wenchuan earthquake and tourist perceptions of it, at Jiuzhaigou valley in China. Data were analyzed from a sample of 196 first-time and repeat visitors to the Jiuzhaigou Valley during National Day, the first Golden Week of tourism after the earthquake.

The spatial distribution characteristics of coseismic landslides triggered by the Ms7.0 Lushan earthquake and Ms7.0 Jiuzhaigou earthquake in southwest China

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2021
In recent years, a series of earthquakes have occurred in Sichuan province, southwest China. On April 20, 2013, 1013 landslides were triggered in the Lushan earthquake within the research area of 1215.87 km2. On August 8, 2017, 821 landslides were induced in the Jiuzhaigou earthquake within the study area of 541.61 km2.

The 2017 Jiuzhaigou Earthquake: A Complicated Event Occurred in a Young Fault System

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2018
AbstractThe Minshan Uplift Zone (MUZ) is located at the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau, which is the junction of three tectonic terranes. The observed discrepancy between a high uplifting and low shortening rate over the MUZ is attributed to the intrusion of a viscous lower crust. In the last 50 years, several significant earthquakes occurred at

MULTIFRACTAL FLUCTUATIONS OF JIUZHAIGOU TOURISTS BEFORE AND AFTER WENCHUAN EARTHQUAKE

Fractals, 2013
In this work, multifractal methods have been successfully used to characterize the temporal fluctuations of daily Jiuzhai Valley domestic and foreign tourists before and after Wenchuan earthquake in China. We used multifractal detrending moving average method (MF-DMA). It showed that Jiuzhai Valley tourism markets are characterized by long-term memory

Rotational motions of the Ms7.0 Jiuzhaigou earthquake with ground tilt data

Science China Earth Sciences, 2019
Observation and research of rotational motions induced by earthquake has been ignored in the past decades due to the lack of understanding of important ground rotational motions and practical difficulty involved in directly measuring the rotational components. Currently, there is a paucity of methods to directly measure rotational motions in China. The

Confirmation and Characterization of the Rupture Model of the 2017 Ms 7.0 Jiuzhaigou, China, Earthquake

Seismological Research Letters, 2021
AbstractOn 8 August 2017, an Ms 7.0 earthquake struck the Jiuzhaigou town, Sichuan Province, China, rupturing an unmapped fault, which is adjacent to the Maqu seismic gap in the Min Shan uplift zone in the easternmost part of the Bayan Har block. Having summarized the previous studies on the source of this earthquake, we confirmed the rupture model by ...
