Disaster policy and emergency management reforms in China: From Wenchuan earthquake to Jiuzhaigou earthquake

International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, 2021
Abstract The article addresses policy changes and reforms in emergency management system in China comparing two major earthquakes. The Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 helped to uncover problems with the Chinese emergency management system. Almost a decade later, the Jiuzhaigou earthquake in 2017 also mobilized a national disaster response.

Evidence for Fluids at the Hypocenter of the 2017 Ms 7.0 Jiuzhaigou Earthquake Revealed by Local Earthquake Tomography

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2021
AbstractThe seismogenic structure of the 2017 Ms 7.0 Jiuzhaigou earthquake is still under debate. To address this issue, we use arrival times of P‐ and S‐ waves from 1766 local earthquakes recorded by our deployed 18 temporary seismic stations to perform the local earthquake tomography and present the 3‐D distributions of the P‐ wave and S‐ wave ...

Assessment of debris-flow potential dangers in the Jiuzhaigou Valley following the August 8, 2017, Jiuzhaigou earthquake, western China

Engineering Geology, 2019
Abstract On August 8, 2017, an Ms 7.0 earthquake occurred at the Jiuzhaigou World Natural and Cultural Heritage, Sichuan Province, southwestern China. Eighty-three earthquake-induced landslides that directly damaged the Jiuzhaigou heritage sites were identified via remote-sensing interpretation and field survey.

Identification and deformation analysis of potential landslides after the Jiuzhaigou earthquake by SBAS-InSAR

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2023
A World Natural Heritage Site, Jiuzhaigou, is the first nature reserve in China whose primary purpose is to protect natural scenery. On August 8, 2017, a Ms 7.0 earthquake caused many unstable slopes in Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan Province, China. In the extreme storm conditions that follow, the unstable slopes tend to develop into potential landslides, which ...
