TRADE LIBERALIZATION, THE EXCHANGE RATE AND JOB AND WORKER FLOWS IN BRAZIL [PDF]

open access: yes
Over the 1990's Brazil experienced a massive trade liberalization and wide variation in the real exchange rate. At the same time, employment growth was small and in manufacturing there was a significant reduction in total manufacturing.

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

Identifying Effect Heterogeneity to Improve the Effiency of Job Creation Schemes in Germany? [PDF]

open access: yes
Previous empirical studies of job creation schemes in Germany have shown that the average effects for the participating individuals are negative. However, we find that this is not true for all strata of the population.

New Evidences on What Job Creation and Job Destruction Represent [PDF]

open access: yes
An alternative measure for gross job flows, incorporating within plant job reallocation, is proposed. Based on data with detailed information about workers occupation, we report the following results: 1.

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

On the Benefits and Costs of Job Reallocation in Colombia [PDF]

open access: yes
This article measures gross creation, destruction, and reallocation of jobs inside the Colombian Manufacturing Industry between 1982 and 1998. We characterize job reallocation as a source of adjustment both in productivity dynamics and on workers welfare.

Light‐Induced Field‐Tunneling Synapses in Solution‐Processed Van Der Waals Heterostructures for Scalable, Retina‐Inspired Optical Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable, solution‐processed WSe2/ZrO2‐x van der Waals heterostructure realizes a light‐induced field‐tunneling synapse (LIFTS) that activates exclusively under bright illumination, emulating the photopic adaptation of the human retina at the device level.
