Automatic Joining of Electrical Components to Smart Textiles by Ultrasonic Soldering
A suitable connection method to automatically produce E-textiles does not exist. Ultrasonic soldering could be a good solution for that since it works with flux-free solder, which avoids embrittlement of the textile integrated wires.

Two new algorithms, "Jive-join'" and "Slam-join," are proposed for computing the join of two relations using a join index. The algorithms are duals: Jive-join range-partitions input relation tuple-ids then processes each partition, while Slam-join forms ordered runs of input relation tuple-ids and then merges the results.

Joining of Thermoplastic Composites with Metals Using Resistance Element Welding
Joining is a key enabler for a successful application of thermoplastic composites (TPC) in future multi-material systems. To use joining technologies, such as resistance welding for composite-metal joints, auxiliary joining elements (weld inserts) can be

Mechanical joinability of microstructurally graded structural components manufactured from hypoeutectic aluminium casting alloys [PDF]
Lightweight design is a driving concept in modern automotive engineering to minimize resource consumption over a vehicle's lifecycle through multi-material design, which relies on the use of joining techniques in car body fabrication.

To join or not to join: collective foraging strategies
We present a minimal model to address the issue of how the interaction between foragers influence their encounter rates with resources. We consider a two-dimensional lattice model to study the optimal strategy for a group of foragers (walkers) searching for targets distributed heterogeneously. A forager who has not detected any target has the choice of,
