From junk to function — How weak selection in eukaryotes builds new parts and drives genomic complexity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...

Normalized-constrained approach for joint clearance design of deployable overconstrained Myard 5R mechanism

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2015
This paper proposes a normalized-constrained approach for the joint clearance design of deployable overconstrained Myard 5R mechanism. Firstly, the overconstrained mobility characteristic of Myard 5R mechanism is analyzed, we show that the dimensional ...

Nonlinear Characteristic of Spherical Joints with Clearance

open access: yesJournal of Aerospace Technology and Management, 2015
Joints in deployable structures can degrade the stiffness and the stability of spacecraft. In this study, the nonlinear stiffness of spherical joints is investigated. The traditional contact model of spherical joints based on non-conforming contact assumption is presented.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Wear prediction for dry revolute joint with clearance in multibody system by integrating dynamics model and wear model

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
This work presents an investigation on wear prediction of multibody system including dry revolute clearance joint using a computational methodology. A procedure to analyze multibody system in which wear is present at revolute joints is presented.

Epigenetic heterogeneity and plasticity in therapy‐induced tumor states through single‐cell multi‐omics

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single‐cell multi‐omics reveals epigenetic heterogeneity across therapy‐adaptive tumor states, including quiescent/dormant, drug‐tolerant persister, and EMT‐like phenotypes. By linking regulatory features with state‐associated biomarkers, these approaches inform biomarker‐guided therapeutic strategies for evolving tumors.
