Simultaneous Hollowization, Joint Numerical Range, and Stabilization by Noise
We consider orthogonal transformations of arbitrary square matrices to a form where all diagonal entries are equal. In our main results we treat the simultaneous transformation of two matrices and the symplectic orthogonal transformation of one matrix.

Coupled dynamics of flow, microstructure, and conductivity in sheared suspensions [PDF]
We propose a model for the evolution of the conductivity tensor for a flowing suspension of electrically conductive particles. We use discrete particle numerical simulations together with a continuum physical framework to construct an evolution law for ...

Buckling failure analysis and numerical manifold method simulation for Malvern Hills slope
Based on the energy equilibrium, the computational formula of critical buckling length of multi-layer rock slope is derived. Considering interlayer and cross joints, the numerical manifold method is used to simulate the buckling evolution process of ...

Multiscale velocity correlations in turbulence and Burgers turbulence: Fusion rules, Markov processes in scale, and multifractal predictions [PDF]
We compare different approaches towards an effective description of multi-scale velocity field correlations in turbulence. Predictions made by the operator product expansion, the so-called fusion rules, are placed in juxtaposition to an approach that ...

Commuting normal operators and joint numerical range
Let ${\mathcal H}$ be a complex Hilbert space and let ${\mathcal B}({\mathcal H})$ be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on ${\mathcal H}$. For a positive integer $k$ less than the dimension of ${\mathcal H}$ and ${\mathbf A} = (A_1, \dots, A_m)\in {\mathcal B}({\mathcal H})^m$, the joint $k$-numerical range $W_k({\mathbf A})$ is the set of $(

Local distinguishability of quantum states in infinite dimensional systems [PDF]
We investigate local distinguishability of quantum states by use of the convex analysis about joint numerical range of operators on a Hilbert space.
