Challenges and Opportunities of Upconversion Nanoparticles for Emerging NIR Optoelectronic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The special photo‐responsiveness of upconversion nanoparticles has opened up a new path for the advancement of near‐infrared (NIR)‐responsive optoelectronics. However, challenges such as low energy‐conversion efficiency and high nonradiative losses still persist.

Prediction of time to prosthesis implantation as a function of joint anatomy in patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) can lead to pain and premature secondary osteoarthritis at an early stage. Joint-preserving osteotomy is an established solution to this problem.

Friction in Total Hip Joint Prosthesis Measured In Vivo during Walking

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Friction-induced moments and subsequent cup loosening can be the reason for total hip joint replacement failure. The aim of this study was to measure the in vivo contact forces and friction moments during walking.

Influence of Rotator Cuff Integrity on Loading and Kinematics Before and After Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty (RSA) has become a very common procedure for shoulder joint replacement, even for scenarios where an anatomical reconstruction would traditionally be used. In this study, we investigate joint reaction forces and scapular kinematics for rotator cuff tears of different tendons with and without a reverse prosthesis. Available

The Markov model of a dynamic system based on experimental data for control problems of bionic prostheses [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
This article is devoted to a prediction of gait kinematics based on the Markov chains in the delay space. We use hypercubic grid in the delay space of angles in the sagittal plane in the knee and hip joints to construct Markov states. Our experimental signal (obtained from the telemetry of the prosthesis) provides transition probabilities.

Distal Radioulnar Joint Arthroplasty with a Scheker Prosthesis

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2006
We report a case of distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) arthroplasty with a Scheker prosthesis. Arthropathy of the DRUJ can occur as the result of a variety of mechanisms, including inflammatory arthritis, osteoarthritis, and post-traumatic arthritis. Resection of the distal ulna is often performed to relieve pain at the DRUJ. However, this can also disrupt

Harnessing Photo‐Energy Conversion in Nanomaterials for Precision Theranostics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Harnessing photo‐energy conversion in nanomaterials enables precision theranostics through light‐driven mechanisms such as photoluminescence, photothermal, photoelectric, photoacoustic, photo‐triggered surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), and photodynamic processes. This review explores six fundamental principles of photo‐energy conversion, recent

Unperceivable Designs of Wearable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Unperceivable wearable technologies seamlessly integrate into everyone's daily life, for healthcare and Internet‐of‐Things applications. By remaining completely unnoticed both visually and tactilely, by the user and others, they ensure medical privacy and allow natural social interactions.
