Abutment Pile Design for Jointless Bridges

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1989
Abutment piles for a jointless bridge are subjected to lateral displacement as the bridge superstructure expands and contracts. The piles must be designed to satisfy the strength criteria of a structural member and the load transfer requirements and support resistance of the surrounding soil. Two design alternatives for the pile capacity are presented.

Application of Jointless Bridges in China

2023
The expansion devices (expansion joints) can be eliminated in jointless bridges to fundamentally resolve the disease and maintenance and replacement problems caused by the expansion devices. Compared to conventional bridges, jointless bridges without deck expansion joint have the advantages of low maintenance cost, improved ride quality, simple and ...

A device for jointless connections with unrestrained animals

American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1981
An apparatus is described allowing multichannel connection with unrestrained animals without using joints. The twisting of the connection lines caused by the rotation of the animal in its cage is detected by means of a torsion wire connected to an electronic device.

Prestressed Concrete Piles in Jointless Bridges

PCI Journal, 1996
The purpose of this investigation is to determine the feasibility of using precast, prestressed concrete piles in jointless bridges and to develop design criteria and pile-abutment joint details that can be used in practice. This phase of the project comprised an experimental and analytical study of load-deflection behavior of HP 10-42 and 12x12 in ...

Jointless track circuit length

IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 1999
A mathematical model of a jointless track circuit (JTC) is presented, which allows the shunt sensitivity of either compensated and uncompensated JTCs to be determined. Results are shown for the value and distribution of the shunt sensitivity obtained by the model at different values of the JTC parameters.

Jointless Bridge Decks

Engineering Journal, 1987
Todays bridge designer is striving essentially to achieve the same goals as his counterparts were 50 years ago: long term serviceability, low maintenance characteristics and economy of construction. While we have mastered new techniques such as welding, composite decks, hybrid girders, load factor and autostress designs, we still cling to many of the ...

Review on research of jointless bridges

2022
The technological development of jointless bridges was reviewed, the advatages, application and research hotspots were introduced, the longitudinal stress characteristics, pile-soil interaction, earth pressure of backfill on the autment and seismic performance were analyzed, and the present situation and development direction of the new technology ...

END‐Bearing Piles in Jointless Bridges

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1988
An algorithm based on a nonlinear finite element procedure previously developed by the writers is modified and used to study the effect of thermally induced lateral movement on the vertical loadcar...

Jointless Bridge Deck with Link Slabs

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2009
Link slabs are used over the piers developing jointless decks while adjacent bridge spans remain simply supported. The Michigan Department of Transportation incorporates link slabs during deck replacements and deep resurfacing. Field performance assessment documented full-depth cracking of most of the link slabs.

JOINTLESS suppresses sympodial identity in inflorescence meristems of tomato

Planta, 2005
Unlike monopodial plants, in which flowering terminates growth of a shoot, plants exhibiting sympodial shoot architecture maintain the potential for indeterminate growth even after converting to floral development. This vegetative indeterminacy is conferred by a special type of axillary meristem, the sympodial meristem, which exhibits precocious but ...
