Continuity Considerations in Prestressed Concrete Jointless Bridges

Structures 2004, 2004
Jointless bridges, which have been constructed by several states, promote reduced maintenance costs, improved riding quality, lower impact loads, reduced snowplow damage to decks and approaches, and improved seismic resistance. In spite of many of these recognized benefits, the behavior of such structures is not yet fully understood, and nationally ...

Design Model for Piles in Jointless Bridges

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1988
Piles in integral abutment bridges (jointless bridges) are subjected to lateral movement due to thermal expansion and contraction of the superstructure. The reduction in vertical load‐carrying capacity of the piles due to lateral movement is an important parameter in designing the piles and in setting length limits for the jointless bridge.

Serviceability design of columns of long jointless structures

Engineering Structures, 2012
A simplified method for the design or verification of the reinforcement of columns of long jointless structures (usually referred to as integral structures) for serviceability conditions is proposed. The design of the reinforcement of columns of integral structures is generally conditioned by the serviceability limit state (S.L.S.), and in particular ...

Jointness or Jointless at Leyte

1989
Abstract : This study examines the joint operation ability of the Leyte Campaign during October-December 1944. It bases the evaluation on the principles of war and how they were applied during the Leyte operations. The study addresses the various naval battles during the Leyte Gulf campaign.

An Adaptive and Jointless Hand Exoskeleton System Design

2018 15th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision (ICARCV), 2018
The current paper presents a wearable, adaptive and jointless hand exoskeleton to assist tendon therapy exercises. Since human fingers are distributed in a crosswise narrow space, it may cause many problems in size and flexibility if we apply traditional rigid structure based on pin joints.

Flexible Pile Head in Jointless Bridges: Experimental Investigation

Journal of Bridge Engineering, 2015
AbstractJointless bridges are typically designed with flexible foundations that include one row of piles. Because the main criterion limiting the length of jointless bridges is the lateral displacement capacity of their supporting piles, longer jointless bridges can be built by increasing that capacity.

Jointless Concrete Bridges – Development of a Flexible Abutment

IABSE Reports, 2007
<p>For bigger concrete bridges the jointless construction hasn’t been established up to now. Concerns regarding the durability still exist since constraint stresses as a result of temperature alterations and shrinkage lead to crack initiation. With the use of the new flexible abutment these restraint stresses and occurring cracks can be reduced ...
