Jones matrix imaging for transparent and anisotropic sample

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
We propose an experimental technique for two dimensional Jones matrix imaging of transparent and anisotropic sample using polarization interferometer. Employing this technique, the Jones matrix components are measured for polarizer and quarter wave plate and results are compared with theoretical results of the samples.

Jones-matrix models for twisted-nematic liquid-crystal devices

Applied Optics, 2005
Twisted-nematic liquid-crystal devices having high spatial resolution are suitable for spatial light modulators. Phase-modulation characteristics of the devices have been widely studied, but the phase delay calculated using a conventional Jones-matrix model is slightly different from that measured using an interferometer.

Extended Jones matrix for first-order polarization mode dispersion

Optics Letters, 2005
I present numerical simulations of the average transfer function of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical fibers conditioned on various given values of the differential group delay (DGD). I find that even fibers with relatively small mean DGD can exhibit significant coupling between the two principal states of polarization.

Jones’s Matrix Representation of Optical Instruments I: Beam Splitters

Applied Optics, 1971
A general method is provided for constructing Jones's reflection and transmission matrices of any beam splitter. Derivations are presented for the various known configurations. The method uses Abelès's matrices and pays special consideration to the different expressions of Jones's matrices relative to the various beams in an interferometric arrangement.

How inhomogeneous can an inhomogeneous Jones matrix be?

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2020
We determine the interval of the inhomogeneity parameter of a Jones matrix to get physically realizable optical systems satisfying the passivity condition. It is found that the inhomogeneity parameter depends on the inner product of the eigenvectors of the Jones matrix, but its maximum value depends exclusively on its eigenvalues.
