Jones matrix physical parameters for media in inhomogeneous fields

Applied Optics, 2018
Inhomogeneous media are affected by a physical or an electromagnetic field, where the off-diagonal elements of the Jones matrix are complex numbers with both real and imaginary parts. Inhomogeneities of the electromagnetic field result in the eigenvalue coordinate system changing along the light path.

Jones matrix for second-order polarization mode dispersion

Optics Letters, 2000
A Jones matrix is constructed for a fiber that exhibits first- and second-order polarization mode dispersion (PMD). It permits the modeling of pulse transmission for fibers whose PMD vectors have been measured or whose statistics have been determined by established PMD theory. The central portion of our model is a correction to the Bruyère model.

Necessary and sufficient conditions for a Mueller matrix to be derivable from a Jones matrix

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 1994
Necessary and sufficient conditions for an optical system characterized by a Mueller matrix to be characterized by a Mueller–Jones, and thence by a Jones, matrix are considered, and the issue of measurement error is examined. It is shown that a Mueller matrix can be expressed as a linear combination of at most four trace orthonormal Mueller–Jones ...

Statistics of the Jones matrix of fibers affected by polarization mode dispersion

Optics Letters, 2001
We carry out a statistical characterization of Jones matrix eigenvalues and eigenmodes to gain deeper insight into recently proposed fiber models based on Jones matrix spectral decomposition. A set of linear dynamic equations for the Pauli coordinates of the Jones matrix is established.

Transmitarray Design With Enhanced Aperture Efficiency Using Small Frequency Selective Surface Cells and Discrete Jones Matrix Analysis

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2018
We present a four-layer transmitarray antenna using small and dense frequency selective surface (FSS) cells and a horn antenna operated in a Ku band satellite downlink (10.7 to 12.75 GHz in Europe).

Extended Jones matrix method for gyrotropic media

Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1992
Birefringent networks play an important role in many advanced optical systems, such as birefringent filters, polarizers, and liquid crystal displays. Most of the applications require a wide field of view and a range of optical axis orientations. In order to design and characterize these devices, the transmission properties of light in birefringent ...

Mueller-Jones Matrix measurement in material identification

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
The uniformity of lattice arrangement plays an important role in industrial processing, science and technology studies and environmental pollution detection. However, there are very little papers to study surface structure by depolarization characteristics.

On the jones matrix method in a twisted anisotropic medium

Optics and Spectroscopy, 2015
The phenomenon of adiabatic following of light polarization in an anisotropic twisted medium is considered using the Jones matrix method. It is shown that the evolution of the light polarization state in a twisted anisotropic medium depends on the thickness of the specimen.

Jones matrix imaging for transparent and anisotropic sample

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
We propose an experimental technique for two dimensional Jones matrix imaging of transparent and anisotropic sample using polarization interferometer. Employing this technique, the Jones matrix components are measured for polarizer and quarter wave plate and results are compared with theoretical results of the samples.
