Aging as a Loss of Goal‐Directedness: An Evolutionary Simulation and Analysis Unifying Regeneration with Anatomical Rejuvenation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The paper proposes that the root cause of aging is the loss of anatomical goal‐directedness after development. Using evolutionary neural cellular automata simulations, the authors show that after the organism has reached its developmental homeostatic setpoint (the adult morphology), the absence of target state to pursue leads to a drifting anatomical ...

Mechanistic Modeling of Continuous Lyophilization for Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article presents the first mechanistic model for continuous lyophilization (aka freeze drying). The model accurately describes the key phenomena and critical process parameters in continuous lyophilization, which can be used for process design, optimization, and control. Results from this work can drive the transition of (bio)pharmaceutical freeze

Micro‐Architected Lithium Cobalt Oxide

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces a gel infusion additive manufacturing technique for the fabrication of micro‐architected lithium‐ion battery cathodes, exemplified with LiCoO2. The resulting electrodes are free‐standing and binder‐free, with tunable microstructure and independent structural control across multiple length scales.

The Adaptive Physical Activity Study in Stroke (TAPAS): A Feasibility Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study examines the feasibility of a mobile health physical activity intervention for individuals post‐stroke using a sequential multiple assignment randomized trial (SMART) design. High recruitment, retention, and adherence rates are observed, with promising trends in step count, fatigue, and quality of life.
