Electronic Structure Distortions in Chromium Chelates Impair Redox Kinetics in Flow Batteries

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, EarlyView.
The highly reducing Cr(III) chelate, KCrPDTA, is functionalized with a hydroxyl group and characterized. While retaining reversible redox chemistry, the OH group distorts coordination geometry, slowing electron transfer kinetics and increasing parasitic hydrogen evolution, offering key design insights for next‐generation flow battery electrolytes ...

Analyzing the Impact of Electrolyte Motion Induced Salt Inhomogeneity Effect on Apparent Aging: Role of Current Rates and Temperature Effects in Accelerated Cyclic Aging Tests in Li‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, EarlyView.
Lithium‐ion batteries subjected to accelerated cycling can display recoverable capacity loss unrelated to real lifetime. This study explains the origin through loss of homogeneity of lithium distribution in the anode and salt concentration in the electrolyte.

Why and how do we perform physical examination(s) in clinical trials? A use case of drug intervention trials in type 2 diabetes mellitus

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims The aim of this study was to determine the purpose and use of physical examination (PE) in phase 3 and 4 drug interventional clinical trials within type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 226 clinical trial protocols identified from the ClinicalTrials.gov database were systematically reviewed by five researchers.

Quantification of cure for pharmacodynamic models of antimalarial drugs: Deterministic versus stochastic approaches

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
In silico pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic (PK–PD) models are used to inform dose optimisation in antimalarial drug development. Here the PK–PD models capture the change in parasite count over time because of exposure to antimalarial drug(s). For current deterministic PD models, simulated parasite numbers decline proportionally during treatment ...
