Pyrosequencing survey of intestinal microbiota diversity in cultured sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) fed functional diets. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The routine use of chemotherapy to control bacterial diseases in aquatic populations has resulted in the development and spread of antibiotic resistance.

Revealing hidden sources of uncertainty in biodiversity trend assessments

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2025, Issue 5, May 2025.
Idiosyncratic decisions during the biodiversity trend assessment process may limit reproducibility, whilst ‘hidden' uncertainty due to collection bias, taxonomic incompleteness, and variable taxonomic resolution may limit the reliability of reported trends.

Genome‐wide association study identifies novel associations with barley yellow dwarf virus and soil‐borne wheat mosaic virus resistance in winter wheat association mapping panel

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 65, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
Abstract Viral pathogens adversely affect wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) development and are responsible for significant wheat yield losses. Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) is one of the most serious worldwide virus threats to cereal crops. Soil‐borne wheat mosaic virus (SBWMV) has been present in the Great Plains and responsible for wheat damage for ...

Phasic Dissonance, Timbral Contrast: Analysing 20th‐Century Guitar Harmonies with Discrete Fourier Transform

open access: yesMusic Analysis, Volume 43, Issue 1, Page 77-113, March 2024.
ABSTRACT One of the six‐string classical guitar's most distinctive features is its unbalanced timbre. That is to say, only four pitches of the chromatic aggregate are overtonally supported by the resonances of the guitar's three bass strings. A common pitch‐ and structure‐generating strategy, exploited by twentieth‐century composers who wrote for the ...

Morphology of the cornea and iris in the Australian lungfish Neoceratodus forsteri (Krefft 1870) (Dipnoi): Functional and evolutionary perspectives of transitioning from an aquatic to a terrestrial environment

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 285, Issue 1, January 2024.
The Australian lungfish, Neoceratodus forsteri, is the earliest branching species of extant lungfishes having changed little over the last 100 million years and is thought to be a key species for the fish–tetrapod transition. This ultrastructural study of the cornea reveals it is not split into dermal and scleral components and is similar to that of ...

The effect of temperature on the dynamics of common bream Abramis brama migrations between the reservoir and its tributary

open access: yesEcology of Freshwater Fish, Volume 33, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract An active preference for higher temperatures within a physiological optimum is beneficial for animal movement. For example, ascending temperatures induce an increase in cyprinid fish metabolism and swimming ability. Spring upstream migrations driven by the search for resources may be related to these increases.
