A simplified direct carbothermic reduction (SDCR) process is developed for efficient recycling of spent LiCoO2 cathodes. The SDCR method employs carbon conductive agents and organic binders embedded in the electrode as internal reducing agents, while the confined pores of calendered electrodes promote the retention of in situ generated reduction gases.

High resolution observations of Jovian magnetospheric microwave synchrotron emission [PDF]
High resolution radio observations of Jupiter were investigated with the use of the Stanford synthesis telescope. The best fit disk was computed from the emission of Jupiter and the residual brightness, due to nonthermal mechanisms was ...

Lithium‐ion battery anodes that maintain good performance and excellent stability under high temperature conditions. Silicon oxide (SiO) has great potential as a high‐capacity anode for lithium‐ion batteries, but its practical use is limited by excessive volume expansion (>200%) and rapid capacity fade, especially at high temperatures.

The Interiors of Jupiter and Saturn [PDF]
Probing the interiors of the gaseous giant planets in our solar system is not an easy task. It requires a set of accurate measurements combined with theoretical models that are used to infer the planetary composition and its depth dependence. The masses of Jupiter and Saturn are 317.83 and 95.16 Earth masses (M⊕), respectively, and since a few decades,

Carbonates from Santos Basin revealed U–Pb ages correlated with basalt ages (A), suggesting that they were formed during magmatic events. These events placed hot CO2 in the reservoir, which, when mixed with carbonate‐rich cold water (B), led to thermal convection, enabling the formation of the U contained in the carbonates.
