Two lenses for exploring relationships between seabirds and fishers: Unveiling reciprocal contributions

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 5, Page 1025-1040, May 2025.
Abstract Reciprocal relationships between fishers and marine life have been documented in Indigenous fishing contexts, but there are few case studies that describe the mechanisms of such relationships, and even fewer that explore other contexts, such as that of artisanal fishers in Latin American countries.

A sedimentary DNA record of the Atacama Trench reveals biodiversity changes in the most productive marine ecosystem

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 30, Issue 7, July 2024.
Using DNA deposited in deep‐sea sediments, we examine how marine biodiversity has changed over the last 150 years in Chilean waters. We find a unique period aligning with high fishing and extreme climatic events that reduces overall diversity. Furthermore, we find an effect of sea surface temperature and El Nino events over diversity, providing an idea

Limited complementarity of functional and taxonomic diversity in Chilean benthic marine invertebrates

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 30, Issue 6, June 2024.
Abstract Aim Patterns of benthic biodiversity at the macroecological scale remain poorly characterised throughout the Chilean latitudinal gradient, in part due to the lack of integrated databases, uneven sampling effort, and the use of species richness alone to quantify biodiversity.

Dinámica trófica del jurel (Trachurus symmetricus murphyi) en el norte de Chile [PDF]

open access: yesInvestigaciones marinas, 2002
The trophic dynamic of jack mackerel Trachurus symmetricus murphyi, caught off the coast of northern Chile, between the spring 1993 and winter 1994, is described. Relative importance of prey taxa, identification of ontogenetic trophic units and prey selectivity by size was evaluated.

Update of the risk assessment of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in food

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 22, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract The European Commission asked EFSA to update its 2011 risk assessment on polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in food, focusing on 10 congeners: BDE‐28, ‐47, ‐49, ‐99, ‐100, ‐138, ‐153, ‐154, ‐183 and ‑209. The CONTAM Panel concluded that the neurodevelopmental effects on behaviour and reproductive/developmental effects are the critical ...

Estimación de la talla media de madurez sexual en Trachurus murphyi mediante parámetros del consumo relativo de oxígeno Estimation of size at first maturity for Trachurus murphyi using relative oxygen consumption

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2010

The exploitation of the shing resource depends on the nature of the seas and the migratory characteristics of shes. Thus, the division of interests between coastal States and coastal States with States that sh at a distance, has set the pattern of international regulation in relation to the use of this natural resource.
