The Changing Borders of Juvenile Justice: Transfer of Adolescents to the Adult Criminal Court [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Network researchers examine whether the prosecution of adolescents as adults reduces crime and recitivism. Their research capitalizes on unique conditions in the New York City region, where the laws of two states, New York State and New Jersey, span the ...

Cladoceran birth and death rates estimates [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
I. Birth and death rates of natural cladoceran populations cannot be measured directly. Estimates of these population parameters must be calculated using methods that make assumptions about the form of population growth.

Ultrasound‐Boosted Liposomal Prodrug Overcomes Age‐Associated Biodistribution Disparity in Pediatric Solid Tumor Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The age‐associated disparity of nanocarrier biodistribution limits the nanotherapeutics of childhood solid tumors. This study developed an ultrasound‐activated liposomal prodrug (CSCPTL) to overcome the age‐associated disparity of off‐target distribution.

Arrests for Drug Offenses in Alaska: 2000-2011 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This fact sheet presents data on arrests for drug offenses made by Alaska police agencies for the period 2000 through 2011. The report presents drug offense arrest information for both adults and juveniles for the 12-year period, including number of drug

HMGB2–RAD21 Axis Promotes Fibro/Adipogenic Progenitor Proliferation and Regulates Fat Infiltration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study constructed the first developmental atlas of embryonic skeletal muscle fibro/adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) and identified an HMGB2+ FAPs subpopulation that regulates FAP pool size and muscle homeostasis. HMGB2 directly targets the RAD21 promoter, and its knockout significantly reduces FAP numbers, thereby lowering the potential for ...

Connectivity between coastal habitats of two oceanic Caribbean islands as inferred from ontogenetic shifts by coral reef fishes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Mangroves and seagrass beds are considered important nursery habitats for juveniles of coral reef fishes. Studies have mostly focused on the fish community of just one habitat, so the connectivity between different coastal habitats is often unclear.

TOGR3, a Proteasome β4 Subunit, Orchestrates Sugar Homeostasis to Trade Off Growth and Thermotolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies a novel thermoregulatory mechanism in rice: TOGR3 partners with 26S proteasome subunits, including TT1, to drive thermoresponsive ubiquitin–proteasome activity, maintaining sugar homeostasis in stomatal regulation to balance growth and stress resistance.

A Non‐Mitophagy Activity of BNIP3L/NIX in Amygdala Glutamatergic Neurons is Essential for Contextual Fear Memory Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Contextual fear conditioning induces BNIP3L‐dependent mitochondrial fission in glutamatergic neurons of the BLA, independently of mitophagy. Loss of BNIP3L elevates Drp1Ser637 phosphorylation, thereby suppressing mitochondrial fission, compromising ATP production, and attenuating excitatory synaptic transmission.

Effects of age, density, and seasonality on molt pattern in the mammal genus (Peromyscus) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Molting, or replacement of pelage (hair) in mammals, occurs during ontogeny as individuals transition from juveniles to adults. Environmental factors can cause variation in molt in many species for thermoregulatory and camouflage purposes.
