Features of fishery and indices of reproduction for pink salmon Oncorhynchus gorbuscha of Iturup Island (Kuril Islands)

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2022
Annual data on the 1976–2019 year-classes of pink salmon from Iturup Island are presented, as their number on spawning grounds, abundance of wild and hatchery juveniles migrating downstream, and returns of adult fish after the marine period of life.

Bayesian salamanders: analysing the demography of an underground population of the European plethodontid Speleomantes strinatii with state-space modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: It has been suggested that Plethodontid salamanders are excellent candidates for indicating ecosystem health. However, detailed, long-term data sets of their populations are rare, limiting our understanding of the ...

Is scuba sampling a relevant method to study microhabitat in lakes? Examples and comparisons for three European species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We compared fish microhabitat use patterns in the littoral zone of a lake using a new direct method (i.e. Point Abundance Sampling by Scuba, PASS) and the widely used Point Abundance Sampling by Electrofishing technique (PASE).

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Abundance and distribution of Bregmacerotidae (Pisces) larvae in Campeche Bay, Mexico

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 1994
The abundance and distribution of larvae and juveniles of the family Bregmacerotidae were studied at Campeche Bay (Mexico). The material was obtained from eight oceanographic cruises carried out between March 1981 and August 1988, covering the four ...

Impacts of female body size on cannibalism and juvenile abundance in a dominant arctic spider

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, 2020
Abstract Body size influences an individual's physiology and the nature of its intra‐ and interspecific interactions. Changes in this key functional trait can therefore have important implications for populations as well. For example, among invertebrates, there is typically a positive correlation between female body size and reproductive output ...

Cross-shelf habitat utilization patterns of reef fishes in southwestern Puerto Rico [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In June 2000, the National Ocean Service and University of Puerto Rico initiated a long-term reef-fish-monitoring program in La Parguera, Puerto Rico. Objectives of this ongoing work are to: 1) develop spatially-explicit estimates of reef fish habitat ...

Natural Biomaterials for Osteochondral Repair: From Source to Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Biological origin‐guided overview of natural biomaterials and therapeutic strategies for osteochondral tissue engineering. The circular diagram categorizes representative materials and strategies into plant/algae‐derived, microbial‐derived, animal‐derived, and human‐derived sources, centered on an osteochondral defect repair model.

Unravelling Seascape Patterns of Cryptic Life Stages: Non-Reef Habitat Use in Juvenile Parrotfishes

open access: yesDiversity, 2020
Juvenile fish often use alternative habitats distinct from their adult phases. Parrotfishes are an integral group of coral reef fish assemblages, are targeted in fisheries, are sensitive to reef disturbances, and have been documented as multiple-habitat ...

Hijacking the Host Clock: A Nematode Effector Antagonizes Soybean Circadian Defense and Translation Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soybean employs its circadian clock, governed by GmCCA1, to rhythmically defend against soybean cyst nematodes. The pathogen retaliates by secreting the effector Hg4E02, which hijacks the clock to suppress defense and co‐opt the host's translation machinery for nutrient acquisition.
