A crucial active site network of titratable residues guides catalysis and NAD+ binding in human succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 34, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Human succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase is a mitochondrial enzyme fundamental in the neurotransmitter γ‐aminobutyric acid catabolism. It catalyzes the NAD+‐dependent oxidative degradation of its derivative, succinic semialdehyde, to succinic acid.

Reversible Redox‐Driven Crystallization in a Paracyclophane Monolayer at a Solid–Liquid Interface

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 34, Issue 47, November 19, 2024.
The electrochemical switching between a 2D crystal and an amorphous phase in a ferrocene‐functionalized cyclophane monolayer is demonstrated. It is also shown that host‐guest behavior with cyclodextrin and electrochemically gated transistor function of the redox center remains intact, opening avenues to two‐, three‐ and four‐dimensional ...

A Comparative Biodegradation Study to Assess the Ultimate Fate of Novel Highly Functionalized Hydrofluoroether Alcohols in Wastewater Treatment Plant Microcosms and Surface Waters

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Volume 43, Issue 11, Page 2297-2305, November 2024.
Abstract Per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of chemicals present in a wide range of commercial and consumer products due to their water‐repellency, nonstick, or surfactant properties, resulting from their chemical and thermal stability.

Modeling PFAS Subsurface Transport in the Presence of Groundwater Table Fluctuations: The Impact on Source‐Zone Leaching and Exploration of Model Simplifications

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 60, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract Air–water interfacial adsorption represents a major source of retention for many per‐ and poly‐fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Therefore, transient hydrological fluxes that dynamically change the amount of air–water interfaces are expected to strongly influence PFAS retention in their source zones in the vadose zone.

Data Evaluation Framework for Refining PFAS Conceptual Site Models

open access: yesGroundwater Monitoring &Remediation, Volume 44, Issue 4, Page 53-66, Fall 2024.
Abstract Contaminated sites with per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are the cause of environmental, health, and financial concerns. Understanding and addressing PFASs at their source areas is important for effective characterization, risk assessment, and remediation. This paper introduces a framework that relies on commonly available PFAS data
