The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Approximating optimally discrete probability distribution with kth-order dependency for combining multiple decisions

open access: yes, 1997
A probabilistic combination of K classifiers' decisions obtained from samples needs a (K + 1)st-order probability distribution. Chow and Liu (1968) as well as Lewis (1959) proposed an approximation scheme of such a high-order distribution with a ...

The K value as a freshness index for tropical food fish and its application as a quality control tool during fish storage and distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The K value, expressed as K value % = HxR + Hx /ATP + ADP + AMP + IMP + HxR + Hx x 100 is a good index for estimating the enzymatic freshness of fish. The changes in K value of various species of tropical food fishes during ice-storage had been studied ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

On a type of almost Kenmotsu manifolds with nullity distributions

open access: yesArab Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2017
The object of the present paper is to characterize Weyl semisymmetric almost Kenmotsu manifolds with its characteristic vector field ξ belonging to the (k,μ)′-nullity distribution and (k,μ)-nullity distribution respectively.

Contact manifolds, harmonic curvature tensor and $(k,\mu )$-nullity distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
summary:In this paper we give first a classification of contact Riemannian manifolds with harmonic curvature tensor under the condition that the characteristic vector field $\xi $ belongs to the $(k,\mu )$-nullity distribution.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
