Description of regression models for predicting the dynamics of pink salmon returns in the Kamchatka region based on climate-oceanological and population-genetic data

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО
Several regression models for predicting returns of pink salmon in the Kamchatka region are presented. The data for 1990–2023 were analyzed. Among available climatic and oceanological indices, the most suitable for using as predictors for forecasting of ...

Slip Distribution of the 1952 Kamchatka Great Earthquake Based on Near-Field Tsunami Deposits and Historical Records [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We explore the magnitude and slip distribution of the 1952 Kamchatka earthquake (MW 8.8–9.0) using constraints from the 1952 Kamchatka tsunami. Our new field data provide more comprehensive coverage of the near-field tsunami than had been available to ...

Foreshock Migration Preceding the 2025 Mw 8.8 Kamchatka Earthquake: Insights From Single‐Station Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract We investigate the spatiotemporal evolution of foreshocks preceding the 2025 Mw 8.8 Kamchatka earthquake by applying single‐station analysis to waveforms recorded at the nearest seismic station. Our results reveal a southwestward migration of foreshocks toward the mainshock epicenter through multiple stages, with a migration speed of ∼7.0 km ...

Cultivation‐Based Detection of a Novel High‐GC Nitrospira Derived From the Argentinian Copahue Volcano Area

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 4, April 2026.
In this cultivation‐based study, two novel moderately thermophilic Nitrospira enrichments were obtained from the geothermal field Las Máquinas in the Neuquén Province, Argentina. Both nitrite oxidizers, belonging to lineage V or the novel taxonomic lineage VIII, contain quorum‐sensing genes and a high genome GC content of 60.6% and 69.4%.
