The study used value stream mapping to identify value‐adding and nonvalue‐adding activities in a rice milling industry which was used as a case study. The study aimed to determine the factors influencing the adoption of lean manufacturing for manufacturing industries in Tanzania. PLS‐SEM and the relative importance index were used to analyze the data. The study revealed that external and policy drivers have positive effects on the adoption of lean manufacturing.
