Mycophenolate Mofetil Treatment Reduces the Risk of Treatment Escalation Due to Vascular Complications in Limited Cutaneous Systemic Sclerosis: Emulation of a Target Trial From the Italian Rheumatology Society SPRING Registry

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) is relatively uncommon because of the lower fibrotic burden and the predominance of vascular complications. In vitro observations and clinical data from transplanted patients suggest a protective effect of MMF on endothelial function.

Combined CT-guided high-dose-rate brachytherapy (CT-HDRBT) and transarterial chemoembolization with irinotecan-loaded microspheres improve local tumor control and progression-free survival in patients with unresectable colorectal liver metastases compared with mono-CT-HDRBT

A rule-of-thumb for the variable bandwidth selection in kernel hazard rate estimation [PDF]

open access: yes
In nonparametric curve estimation the decision about the type of smoothing parameter is critical for the practical performance. The nearest neighbor bandwidth as introduced by Gefeller and Dette 1992 for censored data in survival analysis is specified by

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor–Related Myositis and Associated Triad Overlap Syndrome

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) myositis is a rare but a highly morbid condition, particularly with the ICI myositis triad syndrome of myositis, myocarditis, and myasthenia gravis. We report the clinical characteristics of ICI myositis and all‐cause mortality in these patients.

Estimate hazard ratios in small clinical trials without reported hazard ratios

open access: yesDiscover Oncology
Background For survival studies, pooling hazard ratios (HRs) across multiple clinical trials through meta-analysis is commonly performed to achieve widely accepted and robust conclusions. However, clinical trials sometimes do not report HRs.

What’s it worth? Exploring value uncertainty using interval questions in Contingent Valuation [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we explore the idea that people only know the value they place on a given environmental change as a range, rather than as a singleton. We use the payment ladder design of contingent valuation, and take as a case study the value of coastal ...

Developing and Evaluating a Laboratory‐Based Frailty Index for the Prediction of Long‐Term Health Outcomes in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to construct and evaluate the first laboratory‐based frailty index (FI‐Lab) for predicting adverse outcomes in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to compare its predictive ability to that of an existing clinical FI. Methods We used data from a single‐center prospective cohort of adult patients with SLE whose baseline visit ...

Nearest Neighbor and Kernel Survival Analysis: Nonasymptotic Error Bounds and Strong Consistency Rates

open access: yes, 2019
We establish the first nonasymptotic error bounds for Kaplan-Meier-based nearest neighbor and kernel survival probability estimators where feature vectors reside in metric spaces.

Trajectories of Physical Function in Canadian Children With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We describe trajectories of physical function in children newly diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and identify trajectories with persisting functional impairments and associated baseline characteristics. Methods We included patients enrolled in the Canadian Alliance of Pediatric Rheumatology Investigators (CAPRI) Registry ...
